Showzam! Blackpool's Festival of Circus, Magic & New Variety
8-24 February 2008

Be thrilled, excited, amazed and entertained by Blackpool's first 2 week festival of circus, magic and new variety. There's something for everyone from free events and exhibitions, to adult shows and workshops - so decide what's for you, your friends and family and plan your visit.

Duckie’s 12th Birthday

Duckie – the award winning club specialising in a fusion of live art and light entertainment – present a packed evening of performance, fun, dancing and socialising in its spiritual home, the stunningly decadent Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Starring four moderne, contemporary performance starlets and four old time traditional veteran variety vaudevillians, Duckie makes the links between the legacy of British popular entertainment – from the modern day to the old days. This show promises a very, very mixed bill for a very, very mixed audience.

Disc Jockeys Readers Wifes provide the soundtrack for this glamorous party as dance cards are issued and hostess Miss Amy Lamé introduces a revuedeville of shows that last 5 minutes each.

The wonderfully eclectic cast of this one night only show include
From the Duckie A-List:
country music super star Tina C,
performance provocateur Ursula Martinez,
glamorous spectacularist Lucifire,
cheerleader hula-queen Kalki La Hula,

And Featuring, in a generation-juxtaposition, Blackpool Variety veterans:
84 yr old living legend Mark Raffles
comedy magic cannonball champion Alec Powell
triumphant trombone trouberdor Pete Lindup
and music hall rap star pensioner Ida Barr.

In typical ballroom tradition, there will be 5 formal dances during the evening. Fill in your dance cards and take your partners for a spin across the stunning floor.

Interactive visual installations will keep you entertained on a roam around the dancefloor including Robin Whitmore’s Dream Factory, Amy Lamé’s Pom-Pom International, and The Society of Wonders.

So, join your host, Miss Amy Lamé, DJs for the evening Readers Wifes and the star acts of London's Duckie together with traditional entertainment from troupes that typify Blackpool as new variety and olde come together to create a thoroughly self-indulgent night out.
