Freidank Family

I am trying to find out more about my Great Grandfathers family. Wilhelm Freidank was his name but later changed it to William Johnson he was born in Germany in 1855/6 but moved to Aston in Birmingham in the late 1890's where they used too manufacture carousels from Cattells Grove. They were well known around the Onion Fair. It was said he devised the first electrically powered lighting system but don't know whether this is true.
