Pleasureland - Haunted Inn

Postby EAS » 06 Aug 2007, 19:35

Originally Crooked House, the oldest of three (or more....) surviving - was due to be bulldozed, was pretty well vandalised internally on the exit of the former site leaseholders - has re-opened today as a traditional 'walk -through' dark attraction.

Hooray!

Actually there are four surviving: Pleasureland, Adventure Island (Southend), MW's Amusement Park (Dymchurch) and Blackgang Chine (Isle of Wight).

Take a trip inside the Blackgang Crooked House here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.bu ... _house.wmv

Well that's one more I didn't know about - or one more than I recall you told me existed... :D will check my notes! Or maybe it's my brain is becoming addled.

One is from Battersea.

I think the Pleasureland one just post-war, is the oldest though.

Glad it's still there. It's still going to be themed as a 'Haunted Inn'.

Thanks for the video link - I've seen photos of the interior but not that video.

I think these all need some recording as they are, as with all amusement park stuff, vulnerable to being simply bulldozed. :(

Ocean Beach South Shields has a Crooked House - I went on it last year.

Not sure how old it is though.

PS they also have a great Mississippi Showboat walkthrough - Brilliant!!

Ocean Beach has just been on local news.

Odd co-incidence!

Thanks - must delve further then - suspect it's pretty modern.

Ocean Beach at South Shields does have a small, relatively modern, crooked house. I have a photo of it; it is not the most photogenic of structures!

The video of the Crooked House looks like the one I went into many years ago at Battersea Funfair.. They were well strange, and didnt have any meaning as far as the exhibits go,,

There used to be one at Belle View Manchester.

The Blackgang Chine crooked house is from 1968, so is much more recent than Southport's.

Yes. Thanks.

I think when counting them I was looking at ones which were possibly old enough to be considered for listing. I did have a phone around, people were very helpful.

But...
