I was talking to my parents about Southport over the weekend.
They still go a couple of times a month, just to walk up and down the front and stuff of a weekend. They've been doing it for probably ten years or so.
I asked them what it was actually like at Southport now, visitor wise. They said it's nothing compared to how it used to be - you used to get droves of families heading in from the station and park and ride. The parents dropping the kids off at Pleasureland, then heading into town for a few hours themselves. It's just not happening now though.
I don't know what the nett effect is, but I assume it's that generally business is down in the area? I know that New Pleasureland is doing okay for itself, but it appears that there's something major missing now in Southport.
It's worth noting that my parents don't like amusement parks much - they put up with them for 'the kids'. So their comments are just those of unbiased visitors to the area.
