Merlin buys Cypress Gardens Florida

Postby Gary » 18 Jan 2010, 20:48

I count myself fortunate to having been to Cypress Gardens Florida in the early 90s but it has fallen on hard and uncertain times recently.

..Until perhaps now that is...

Merlin has bought it!

We went there September 2008 on a couple of week tour around Florida - really glad it's been bought by someone, there were rumours previously that all the rides would go and that just the waterpark part would survive.

It looked to be in trouble back when we went with a bit of a fire sale on souvenirs, $5 entry on Fridays and some staff complaining about conditions.

But equally we were treated great by other staff and Skyliner is a great coaster!

While Universal and Disney are great, I still like having little parks around - hopefully some of it's charm will survive.

The following is a good read about the behind the scenes of the Merlin: Legoland / Cypress Gardens Deal.

I can second that, I went in September 2008 also, and the Starliner is an amazing coaster.

The press release the other month by Merlin bosses stated that they will keep the gardens, water park and one wooden coaster when it opens as Legoland.
