Elvis' Favourite Coaster Being Torn Down

Postby porterm » 02 Feb 2010, 21:33

Just thought people might like to view these sad articles regarding a historic US 1912 wooden coaster famously linked to being Elvis Presley's favourite coaster. Luckily I got to ride it back in 2005 with an American enthusiast group called RideWorld; I thought it was a great little ride for its time and rerode it many times. I remember taking a shot of the plaque outside with the Elvis tribute scroll on it thinking that it could well be my last opportunity to ride this gem. Sadly that could now be true from the item links below.

Let's hope someone can salvage the attraction - rumoured to have a Wisconsin interest. Surely the Elvis link would be highly credible; shame it would no longer reside in his former homeland though.

Regards

Looks like the write up hints that it's not being saved.
That sucks. That's a pretty unique coaster. Lots of bunny hops for air time.

SUCKS! SUCKS!

After doing some research, it looks like there was a campaign to save the park that claimed ownership of the ride, and was given time to remove it (months that turned into years) but it never happened. Now it's too rotten to save the structure but the track and mechanical parts are being (possibly) saved for an eventual rebuild elsewhere.
That's what's written, not sure if it's true.

Update. As of yesterday, Green Bay, Wisconsin, stepped in and is sending people to go see if they can save the important elements.

More news. Looks like the mayor of Green Bay himself is arriving on Sunday to see for himself.
