Vikingar

Looks like the Vikingar is on the way, last year may have been its last chance.

2 Cranes are uner the ride in the car park, and the ride has been drained. The track is not in the best condition, and looks very rusty.

I have heard rumours that it has been sold. Of course, it could just be scrapped. Thank goodness I took loads of photos of it last year!

Shame to see it go, but maybe the space is needed for the new coaster project. Hopefully it will be relocated. By the way is the Vikingar the water chute ride that was once at Belle Vue, cant remember if it went to Blackpool or to Wales.

Andrew,

The Vikigar is indeed the old water chute from Belle Vue. It was re-themed and renamed Vikingar in 1998? or was it 97? Can't remember!

I am sure Ash will know :)

Vikingar

Postby Mancfire » 12 Mar 2003, 01:38

The Vikingar was renamed in 1999 (or very late 1998) whilst Valhalla was being built to fit in with the theming of the new ride - hope this helps.

Also, any more news on BPB's coaster in the rumour factory?

I reckon BPB should also purchase the Runaway Coaster from Rotunda - it'd complement BPB or Pleasureland wonderfully what with all those Woodies they've got already! They also keep their rides in excellent condition. What do you all reckon?

I think it would fit nicely on the site of the Wild Cat at Pleasureland.

Vikingar was re-named just beofre the illuminations in 1998 I believe.

For the record, the cranes have now gone, however there is still no sing of anything on the Vikingar.

Anybody else experiencing Daja Vu?

Regarding BPB's new coaster surely they must be thinking about this pretty hard now. Is it due to open in 2005 or 2006?

To me what makes BPB so special is the fact that it has no inversions, and I hope they stick to this policy.

All the rumours of recent times have pointed to a Cedar Point style Dragster. Maybe going out over the sea then coming back and winding around the Big One. The station being where the Millenium Bug is now.

I guess if they were doing all this, they probably would have started by now, or would be very soon. Anyone shed any light? :D

New Coaster

Postby AndrewEdwards » 08 Apr 2003, 10:42

Ive heard that the new ride is still only in the planning stages and no details will be released until the summer, however it makes sense that it would be a 'Dragster' type ride as this does not contain as much structure as a standard coaster, however i doubt they will be able to take it out over the prom and into the sea, due to building restrictions and the severe nature of the North Sea.

By the way is the Vikingear still standing or operating?

Vikingar is SBNO (Standing but not Operating)

Ran 1979-2000
SBNO 2001
Open certain days 2002
SBNO so far this season.

Your guess is as good as mine! :x

Andrew & all,

It is the Irish Sea at Blackpool not the North Sea. It's over by the east coast!

Word has it that the ride to be removed for the new BPB coaster will be the Black Hole although it will probably be relocated to the site of the Millenium Bug as that is the ride that is up for sale. It will be interesting to see what happens though!

Time we were all informed!

Cheers

Hi all,

Thought you'd like to know that the plan is to re-open Vikingar in the next week or two (end of May). The refurbishment to the return bend is now complete and the ride is ready to role :D

Greg,

this is of course great news, and i can comferm the Vikingar was open 24-5-03.

Greg, could you enliten me as to why BPB keep bring this ride into and out of operation! Seems a very bizzare way to operate. Also, any idea what the future holds for the Cableway...if anything?

Cheers,

Ash

Hi Ash,

For this season Vikingar need some work doing to the return bend after the water dip, which has now been done. Because the majority of work was done in-house (like most things at BPB) it wasn't a priority given the work being done elsewhere, like the Arena for example.

As to why it seems to have a random operating schedule, I don't really know. My only guess would be the rides popularity (lack of) and staffing issues at BPB right now.

Will Vikingar ever go? Not sure. Like most rides at BPB, I think if the right price was offered then it would do.

Its sad to see the Cable Way not operating. It is still for sale, but the chances of it being purchased would have to be very slim.
