Another Amusement Park Under Threat

Postby Bob » 20 Aug 2005, 10:03

Britains Traditional Seaside Resorts are fast disappearing

Rhyl funfair disappears in plan

The funfair is one of Rhyl's biggest attractions
A famous north Wales funfair could disappear if a development firm's vision for west Rhyl is realised.
Manchester-based firm Modus Properties has published an artist's impression on its website showing how the Ocean Beach fairground site could be transformed.

The proposed development includes 200 apartments, restaurants and a food store - but not the historic funfair.

Hi Bob,

That sounds terrible news. I was only thinking about visiting this park recently (mainly to ride the former Battersea Funfair Jetstream roller coaster that replaced the ill-fated Big Dipper, after the Cyclone coaster).

Another awe-inspiring planning proposal too! - with the internet explosion and diminishing leisure time these days don't these planners know that most shops could soon be history also? I'm obviously quite astounded, but sadly not too surprised in the current land sale fever climate.

Hopefully I'll get to visit Ocean Beach before it's too late.

Where is it going to end? Let's tear up our railway network and replace it with branches of Tesco. Let's knock down our bus garages and replace them with casinos. I'm sure that there is not a school in the whole of Kent that "makes a profit". Let's get rid of the lot then, if that's how it all works.

Let's hope that the people of Rhyl fight as hard as we in Margate are fighting to save their amusement park.

amusement park closures

Postby dave » 31 Aug 2005, 20:56

WE have seen it time and time agian the great traditional amusement park going to the pan.
why have people let this happen its all down to money and people doing different things in this x.box, game cube, interactive age.
its such a pity about heritage and history of leisure time pursuites.
when you look at heritage in statley homes, castles, other museams ect.
they stay a float by getting lottery grants and the like but not the amusement parks they are left to fend for themselves and look what happens sell up for land for developers ect, next thing we know in say 5 to 10 years the daddy of them all blackpool pleasure beach will be sold for land to be built casino resorts ect (joking i hope) but these things might just happen.
regards dave......
