Medway's Diggerland Park Under Threat

Postby porterm » 15 Jun 2006, 23:27

Hi all,

Just caught an item on Diggerland on the local news tonight. In a nut shell, it appears that the park, near Strood, Rochester, Kent, failed to properly get the required planning permission when it expanded some of their park, including buildings. Apparently they built a two story building and were only really allowed a single floor structure.

It seems that overlooking neighbours across the River Medway have lodged complaints and now the local council are having to step into the controversy. Ironically, the report said the park was Medway's most successful tourist attraction, so it would be sad to see it go I reckon.

It's a real shame if it does have to move, but I suppose at present it will be easier than some parks to move. The argument about some land being unstable is of course a very valid point and safety must always come first, although it's a little unclear as to whether this is what experts feel or what a few locals have pulled out of the air. Hey, maybe it will be moved to near me-I must live about further to a theme park than anyone in England.
