Runaway Coaster

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

This is really terrible. I can't believe there was a chance for it to be saved and it's been demolished anyway. This has been a tragic 6 months for the UK/European/World wooden coasters. The Scenic now is even more important, and Dreamland too as an icon of what was a great part of British life.

It's so disappointing that people have so little respect for our heritage, including (as EAS says) English Heritage! The developers are greedy and loaded with cash, and the "official" protectors scared of them.

To lose one of the final remaining figure 8's is terrible, and the destruction photo's probably hit me harder than the Cyclone ones (despite the Cyclone being very close to my heart).
