hello all,

i am considering moving to kent. but i'm not at all familiar with the area...( best and worst places ) and was hoping i could get some advise. i noticed you have a dreamland campaign....and i've seen some flats for sale next to this dreamland and was wondering if anyone could tell me a little about the place....

also, if you could give your opinion on the best places to live in kent...id appreciate it a lot.

quite concerned at the possibility of living next to a theme park....is it something big ??

Hello House Search.

I am a massive fan of Kent, there are so many different elements - from some of the most stunning countryside, to fantastic commuter hubs (like my wonderful town of Chatham), to great coastal resorts.

Margate has always had a bit of a special vibe about it whenever I have visited. It would be true to say that it has had a bit of a downturn in recent years, but nothing a bit of investment couldn't deal with.

I would wholeheartedly recommend you

a) Move to Kent
b) Get involved in the Save Dreamland Campaign
c) Take us all out for a beer!

Just before this thread gets blown away, I wondered if Hairy can give me any advice on the best interest rate I can get on a savings account.

I wouldn't want one that was too near to a noisy theme park!

Am I suggesting that this question is so off topic that it should be deleted? You bet I am!

I don't think the topic should be deleted as the Save Dreamland should be trying to help locals and promote the area as a whole, as I thought one of our main aims is supposed to be restoring the reputation of the area that has gone a little off the boil lately. Welcome to the campaign and hopefully people will be able to help you. Having said that your best bet would be to contact an estate agent for details on houses etc. Also it's difficult to give advice without knowing more about your circumstances. For example if you had a 5 year old kid you might want to know how good the nearest Primary School is, whereas you wouldn't give two hoots if you didn't have any kids and were'nt planing to.

Out of interest I would be grateful 'House-Search' if you could tell us how you found this website. If you don't know anything about Dreamland it would be intersting to know how you got here. Whether it was recommended etc.

Also why are you concerned about living next to a theme park? Surely that's one of the things that make Margate different, one of the essential things that make Margate a popular tourist resort. Perhaps if you could give us some specific worries we might be able to put your mind at rest.

Thats assuming that this "new member" isn't another Bob alias playing a game. Perhaps he is waiting for a housing development to evolve on the dreamland site? i find something strange about the posting.

That's exactly why I think it should be deleted. Who would come onto a site about saving a theme park, and say they don't want too near to it, and by the way... what is it?

The notion had crosses my mind, but I thought I would give 'house-search' the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day it seems hard to see why Bob would want to post that. If the post is genuine (which it may be) then it says two things:
1) that the campagin has a very high profile. People who know very little about the area have found out about our campaign.
2) That people respect the campaign to give good, honest advice. They are recognising that we have a good knowledge of the area and can be relied upon to help direct an important decission.

Judging by Bob's previous posts it's hard to see why he would want to create such an impression. I feel that if we can give advise we should and wait and see what happens. Either way I can't see how this would damage the campaign. If 'house-search' is genuine we don't want to seem unwelcoming.

I'm sorry to double post, but I notice you've logged on a couple of times and haven't posted a response. Although you admitted to knowing very little about Dreamland or our campaign you are clearly keen which is a positive sign. If you don't provide us with more information I'm afraid I don't see how we can give you the answers you are looking for. Good luck with finding a house...

firstly, may i put your mind at rest, im not bob...whoever he is. and theres absolutely nothing 'strange' about my message, just wondering if some people could give me advice on something i know next to nothing about.

in answer to the other guy, neil i think it was, i put dreamland fun park, or something like that, into google, and amongst other things this came up. i also tried some postcodes of the local area, and the properties i was interested in. i didn't realise this website was supposed to be top secret.....

i'm not realy interested in primary schools, but colleges and universities do interest me. are there any good ones in the area ? what is the education like in kent as a whole ?

i believe people's experiences are better than statistics, which is why i'm consulting with you all.

the main things that concerned me about living next to a theme park are probably the noise factor...having hundreds of screaming people flying off machines right outside your window isn't really my idea of a good view from the bedroom window. as it happens, im not a fan of theme parks at all...( not meaning they should close it down, but i wouldn't go on any rides thats all ).

i also think my view is shared by many others, so the properties close to this park will be hard to sell again, should i decide to do so in the future, and are probably impossible to rent out.

as it happens, i think i've already come to the conclusion that the property next to this park isn't for me, but i wanted to know if you can advise me of the good and bad areas in kent....where to invest...places to avoid..and so on...

i know that i would have contributed had it been you asking for my view...

you advice is most appreciated

what i find a little strange, to be honest, is why you all seem to be so suspisous when a new person posts on the board.

i thought we lived in a democracy....?

to be honest, if i had seen the message you just sent a minute before i posted mine, i probably wouldn't have bothered...

quite off putting....

if i was a person looking to help save the dreamland park...which i could have been, i would have been really offended by the 'warm welcome' i got. apart from the first message, they were all quite intolerant.....

house-search some people on this forum have a feeling that all bad things come from one source that, of course is not true (in this case anyway). I welcome you to the forums and hopefully along with everyone else from SDC.

Even if you was another so called "Bob" it doesn't matter since you asked some good questions that I think even that this topic is straight towards the topic of Dreamland it would still help to put a list of all the pro's and con's of Margate and of course Dreamland.

In the far South East of Kent you have Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs and just incase you didn't know Kent is the Garden of England. All of these have lovely beaches that people come from all around the UK to swim and have fun in.

At the moment Dreamland is a more of a Travelling Fun Park but we all hope it can be brought to it's former glory and become one of the best parks in the UK for Family based rides. Of course like all parks it has it's screams and some sound from the rides themself but there is quite a distance to any local housing/flats apart from Arlington House (The block of flats, near Dreamland) but if you lived there I'm sure Dreamland would be the least of your problems.

excellent.

house-search, i grew up living just round the corner from the park and it was a big part of the towns character. margate is at its best when its hot and sunny and full of people and it does still happen sometimes.

Dreamland was a massive part of that and hopefully will be again one day. I'd suggest if you are concerned about buying a place near an amusement park then you probably shouldn't be looking at houses in a busy seafront area anyway.

lol common lets admit it apart from being an eye saw Arlington House has alot of other things that would put people off living there, and personally I wouldn't want to live there.
