Just to say I have received the copies of Dreamland Remembered from the printer this very day - and have despatched a quantity to Nick Laister.

Fear not your preorders will no doubt be fulfilled soon, Royal Mail strike permitting.

Job's a good 'un though I say it myself. I hope you all enjoy reading this new edition.

Copies will be delivered on Wednesday 21 October to WH Smith branches in Margate and Westwood Cross. Copies will also be sent to Waterstone's local branches - this will take a few days as they insist on all their deliveries going via a wholesaler in Eastbourne!

Lovely's gallery in Cliftonville, Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate, Bee Antiques in Broadstairs, Harbour Books and East Kent Models in Whitstable, the Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre, Faversham and Rainham Bookshop, Rainham, are also stocking copies. If I remember rightly, Sarah V has also kindly said she will stock copies at the Shell Grotto - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Other outlets will be advised as they come on stream and don't forget you can do direct mail order with me via PO Box 201, Whitstable, Kent CT5 1WT - £18 inc p&p.

Hope Nick doesn't mind me doing this - I'm very glad to have his support! Many thanks.

BTW it's my 50th birthday today (20/10) so all funds raised will go to my pension plan!

I am now the proud owner of the 90th anniversary edition! WHSmiths in Margate were just unpacking them when I went in

I am just confirming that we have today dispatched copies of Dreamland Remembered to all customers who pre-ordered copies. Hopefully the postal strike is not going to cause too much of a delay. It would be nice to think that you will all have something to read on Saturday morning, especially as the weather is going to be generally awful all day pretty much everywhere!

I bought my copy today and have been in bookworm mode all afternoon. I have the original edition and I wasn't entirely sure if I needed the 90th anniversary edition but it has loads of new photos and much of it has been completely re-written with tons of new info.

Apart from a slightly unappealing photo on page 111- and not the top one :wink:

- it is thoroughly recommended!

Thanks for that endorsement Vince, Charlie and Sam - glad you enjoy the new book. Your view about all the new photographs justifies my writing the new edition. If you want it signed, I'll be at the Winter Gardens Christmas craft fair next Sunday 8 November between 10 and 4pm with a stack more copies to offer.

I think the three things which struck me most were the new section on Dreamland cinema, the fact that there are so many ride photos which I have never seen before and the colour section- especially the leaflets and posters with their wonderful art deco styling.

For me, page 111 is the best in the book. The contrast between the two juxtaposed photographs is incredible, the top photograph showing two pretty girls happily riding on a carousel, the bottom one showing a sweaty, overweight, florid, failed property developer gazing dementedly at some remaindered Millennium Dome tat which he has just bought at auction. This contrast is what good literature is all about. And shows why Margate is in the mess it's in.

My copy is only a day old but is already making the transition from "well-thumbed" to "dog-eared" and I guess that's the best compliment you can pay to a book.

Love the book it was nice to see a picture of the Alice and Wonderland ride as it was my favorite ride as a child. I can also remember going on a ride that was under the Scenic and was later turned into a maze of glass. I was looking to see if it was in the book as i have never seen a picture of it.

for me page 111 was the worst page in the book with the worst picture in the book

Oh dear! I'm beginning to think I should have put some dotted lines around that picture, added the words 'cut here' so that it could be removed easily by those offended and perhaps pinned to any available dartboard!

Like it or not, JG was/is a legitimate owner of the site and has his place in Dreamland's history. At least more people know now what he looks like.

For anybody reading this who bought a book from me at the Winter Gardens today, thank you for doing so and I hope you enjoy the book.
