The Corkscrew

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

I talked to Alton's General Manager yesterday, and the lovely PR lady for Tussauds.

Corkscrew will be removed over the next four weeks. They are adamant that the ride will not be going anywhere else at all. The 'screws' are already in some plan to be used elsewhere in the park as a monument.

I don't think any offer would make any difference, Alton just don't want the ride popping up anywhere else.

The atmosphere at the park was very odd yesterday. It was very vibrant, more so than usual - probably due to a larger number of 'enthusiasts' on the park than usual. The media attention helped as well.

However, that's it now for good - it's gonig to be very strange not having the ride there any more...
