Was there amy legitimate reason for turning off the cameras that were on the ride? Or just funding? It would have been so ironic if the scenic had caught those who tried to bring about its demise and it was only later discovered!

Of course the tapes would have had to have been running. Not to mention if damaged restoring those tapes would cost a huge amount...

I don't think they'd be clever enough to do it remotely though or they'd have done a much better job of destroying the ride - i think we can be thankful of that.

Turn off the cameras? I suspect any cameras were turned off long ago! Why would the site owners want them turned on?

The loss of the Scenic (and possibly the cinema is next...) would be so very convenient!

Of course... supposing all this was an act of God, and that money is at stake.. if you are going to pay people to burn down your scenic railway, you can pay people to turn a blind eye if they are sat in security.. of course that is a outragous thing to think, and I am certainly not.

One point I have found of interest.. when the Mr G's arcade burnt down... i had been stocked with new machines, that included a full scale "Ridge Racer" arcade machine, with full size MX5... now.. me being some what of an anorack with arcade machines, I know only a few of these ever made it into the UK, and one of these was in the inferno that was Mr G's.

Odd thing is.... in the newly renovated arcade at Leysdown... what machine do you think they are setting up... the (now a few years old), self same machine.... geeee... I guess although only about 3 of these made it to the UK, our friend bought two of them... either that, or some how this very expensive machine, which was in the last inferno, somehow, was dismantled and spirited away before the fire struck, only to be kept in storage a few years, and then to re-surface in another of the owners sites... anh now that surely couldn't happen.. god that would be just way too far fetched eh. And let me be clear in saying I FOR ONE AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT WHAT SO EVER.

More speculation but if someone was planning such a thing then they'd probably do it to inflict the most damage that they could. Unless it was a strange coincidence. So many fires in the area though..

We should be thankful for the fire brigade's great work though, on thinking about the stuff that was in the shed that people have mentioned and the fact that the structure was mainly wood - they saved a great deal of the ride and when it's rebuilt everyone will be glad of this.

But they did it in the way they could inflict the most damage - so they thought. Financially it's a great deal of loss, it's just they didn't consider what EH might say.

Can I just point out that the two cameras you can see at the top of the lift on the Scenic Railway were not CCTV. They were observation cameras linked to the pay box in the station to ensure the safe running of the ride when it was operational and had no recording facilities. They were only there so the operator in the station had a view of the train at all times when out on the track.

Yes, that's what I thought. Not security at all.

Why would the owners want the site secure, I ask myself - apart from maybe to keep off travellers or anyone trying to occupy the land!

Now there's a thought...

I am hearing rumours from a normally very reliable source that an arson attack is being planned on a private residence in Folkestone. I don't approve of it, particularly as it is being planned to take place at night while the premises is occupied. I don't have any information as to who will be doing it.

If someone dies in this attack how would you feel knowing you could have stopped it?
perhaps tipping off the police is a good idea

All I can add is that the people involved are apparently Russian and that the sum handed over was £3000. There are thousands of Russians in the UK at the moment and I have no idea who might be responsible. I will be in Rome next week so it's nothing to do with me.

Flying pigs?

Will there be fireworks too? And champagne? Are we selling tickets to aid the campaign?
