Hear hear Cheryl! - don't forget come election time next year. Give this lot the bruising they deserve for their sheer apparent arragant sterwardship of the Dreamland saga. People won't forget I'm sure.

I personally find their decision making beyond words of description. Like the old accountancy adage, I reckon they know the cost of everything but the value of nothing. A very sad world indeed, especially when it comes to heritage tourist world-renowned attractions like Dreamland. Take that away and you may as well start putting up the "For Sale" signs now in my opinion.

Martin

PS I'll definitely be at this Thursday's Council meeting at some point. I'll have to brace myself for the inevitable round of incompetent statements from our local elected representatives I expect.

Hi All

It is sad once again to tha elected represntertives of the people of thannet are being advised by there leadership to completly ignore the wishes of the people who give them there job in the 1st place, its just a shame there were not elections this year, as this might have just swayed them to vote in differnt way both at the previous meeting and most likely the up comming one, I am guessing that thay think come next year the people will have forgotten there miss handling of this situation, but i am sure that the campain will be here to remind all of the voters of this.

Grrrrrrr.... TDC just will not listen to public opinion.
They are adopting a 'we know best' attitude.
Just as predicted they are just gonna try and bulldoze this through no matter what. They are just digging themselves a bigger hole.

We are not the ones being 'short-sighted'. Our view is very much aimed at the long-term economy of Dreamland / Margate.
Politicians are ruining this town. Margates tourism industry is being erased. Soon there will be nothing left.

The effect of Dreamland as a well-run amusement park, would to be able to draw in vast numbers of visitors to Margate.
This would produce a massive increased trade for surrounding businesses such as shops and restaurants and help stimulate the local economy.

What other use could match this level of visitors to the town?
This is where the economic effect and so-called 'viability' stretches far beyond the park itself.

Hi Richard

I have made this point in many of my previous posts, without a reason to come to Margate there will be fewer shops. no guest houses/hotels and the few attractions that are left will have to close due to a lack of patronage, I am not saying that margate will turn into a complete ghost town but there will only be locals left and thay all have limited funds to spend, there is all ready both in the shopping areas and a along the sea front many empty properties why do you need to build more of the same, if people cannot make money in the ones that are now empty and the people dont seem to rushing to buy or lease.

If i were on the TDC i would be asking my self why are thease buildings empty, why are more shops closeing, but more importantly what can we be doing to reverse this situation, the answer is blindingly obvious, lets create some attractions that will get the visitors back into the town and spend. Like most people on here I dont expect the numbers to be like that of the 60's and 70's however with a good attraction (Dreamland) well run and with welcoming surroundings, good selection of rides, and obviously eating places and souverner shops, with good support from advertiseing and other promotions, this would happen and who knows some of the closed premices may get new people in them and thay will make money as there will be people there to spend cash with them, memebrs of the TDC especally Tory ones please take NOTE.

Sadly, I won't be at the Council Meeting due to a work committment I can't escape from. Let's hope that the Tory Councillors see the error of their ways, listen to public opinion (ie the people they are there to represent) and accept the view of the government inspector.

I also won't be in attendance due to personal committments sadly but good to see that a fair few people will be going.

Good to see you're travelling down Martin, shame I won't be there but Sarah said she was looking forward to seeing you again so you'll be in good company.

I am many miles away from you so I cannot attend I am like others hope the Tory councilers see the light but i think there is more chance of hell frezeing over than that happening, I hope that Sarah and the other attendies will have good news to report, but I am suspecting not and the campain and the fight to save Dreamland will go on.

Me too. Half way around the world.
God as my witness, if they screw up, I'll fly over if we can rally a couple hundred residents before the next meeting and physically demand their resignations.

Hi Jim

These are TORY members thay dont do resignations unless thay are forced to (so unless any one here as some thing on any of them thay can sell to the news of the world), I think we are sunk until next year when thay have to put themselves before the people of Thannet for re-election, at that point thay can and should be removed from there seats, by the voters of Thannet, to be replaced with councliers with more vision on what attractions and vistors to Margate actually mean.

Well, woe to them.

I can't believe how they think more shopping and housing will help anything in Margate.
It's so sophomoric.
