Scanned (not great quality as it had to be done in 4 bits and reduced in size considerably, but gives a good idea of the scale of the structure) ....

Thanks for the pic Paul, if you or anyone sees us there come up and say hello. One of us will be wearing a "Save Dreamland" T shirt. Normally, it would be me wearing it, but, like all my other T shirts, it seems to be shrinking by the day as I plough into middle-age

I was gobsmaked today when my Film studies teacher walked into the classroom and showed us that pic, he had been showing all his other classes today too. The amount of people's first reaction was, "OMG, I remember Dreamland, I used to love that place". lol, shows there is still love for the park. Although I wasn't best pleased with my teachers comment, "It used to be good and then it turned into an overgrown fun fair". Hmm, I suppose he was right, but I just didn't like hearing it.

Best of luck on this. I'm away for the weekend and hope I won't be returning to an ugly post on how the Scenic Railway was st ablaze and damaged by flying embers.

Thanks for the scan, looks a safe distance from the Secnic, embers should not cause a problem as the heat thay give out disapates very quickly, in the cool night air,

what I would recomend is ask the local fire service to hose down the parts of the scenic that are closest to the fire before it is torched that way the risk of anyting happening will be zero.

Most fire services will be more than willing to assist as it would also give them a chance to practise diffrent firefighting methods.

I didn't see it, but a friend told me that there was an article on local television news about the Burning Man. The interviewer raised concerns about the position of the structure so close to the Scenic Railway and the interviewee said it should be fine so long as the wind doesn't change direction :shock:

For all the assurances, I have grave misgivings about allowing this conflagration to take place so close to such a vulnerable structure as the Scenic Railway.

Well, we just got back.

It was a fairly impressive spectacle, and I will be interested to see the finished film, to see how the burning of the Waste Man fits in with the storyline.

Although we were almost 200 yards away from the fire, we were showered with burning embers- security were moving people further away across the car park because of the risk of injury, and both fire appliances were pouring water onto the turnarounds of the SR nearest to the fire. I do not know if this was precautionary, but they did not do it until the embers started raining down on us.

I was wearing my "Save Dreamland" T-shirt and was spotted and interviewed by BBC Radio 6 and banged the drum for the Campaign. I don't know if and when they will use it or when the programme will be aired.

I didn't see anyone else there that I recognised, but then it was very packed.

Incidentally, there is a piece of video HERE about the event which was filmed yesterday.

Must admit it was quite impressive, but the embers were scarily close to the Scenic and I saw them head well over the crowd. Just thankful that the breeze took them away from the area.

Yes i have to agree it was a spectacular event, i was lucky enough to get front row action against the barrier next to the scenic railway, and was equally impressed by the fire crews who constantly showered the scenic closest to the burning man including the station building. The heat from the man must have been getting the scenic pretty warm. A couple next to us did make a coment that it was not water being sprayed but something else, but wont repeat it otherwise my post will be removed. Sorry didn,t meet up with anyone but was far busier than expected. Maybee the publicity on national bbc1 tv news last night enticed some people down.

Flash point of timber depends on what type it is and if it is damp, the embers could have caused a problem if the fell in to a nook or crany and sat there smodering, the heat would not have probably been too much of a problem,
