Joyland Books

It seems to me that the forum is "going off topic" with recent threads involving Blackpool, Great Yarmouth, Pleasureland and Rotunda.
The Rotunda thread I can understand because of the JG connection, whereas the others, whilst of interest, are doing nothing to advance the "Save Dreamland" campaign.

I don't agree really - they are drawing people in who have wider interests in coasters. Our UK heritage of woodies is under threat - we have only a handful of genuinely historic ones left - and any way of hooking interest is a good thing.

OK maybe this should be posted in different sections, but we are all interested in Dreamland too, and it's a central point to share information which may be relevant to all coasters and parks.

PS - just had a glance at the BPB forum, which has a thread about Barry Island, with a link to here.

OK off topic - but having more than just Dreamland on this forum may well bring in new supporters?

We just need maybe to post elsewhere and not in the Dreamland section.

Have to agree with EAS on this.

It is now becoming very widely known that The Scenic is the only listed coaster in this country, which seems to have had the effect of slightly shocking those who thought that their own favorite historical coaster had some protection.

Since the whole Southport thing blew up, I've seen many threads on various forums enquiring about the status of Big Dipper, Grand National and Wild Mouse etc etc , the upshot being that they could be ripped down tomorrow all at the sayso of one person.

There are many links on those threads back to Joyland Books. A lot of younger people frequent such boards who would never of even heard of The Scenic if such "off topic" threads hadn't appeared here.

So, overall, it's a good thing as The Scenic and Nicks' campain will act as a blueprint for others.

Maybe too we could have some sort of 'historic woodie trail'... encourage those who think the Big One is the greatest (hmmmm.... size isn't everything...) to recognise what went before is important, and wonderful rides in their own way too.

History matters.

Personally I'd see the "Amusement Parks and Theme Parks" section of the Joyland Book forum as ideal for these sort of posts, i.e. those where there's no direct link to the campaign but they are park related and likely to be of interest.

It would still bring people to the Joyland Books forums as a whole and hopefully then they would notice other areas of interest.

It's also possible that if a topic is moved out of the Save Dreamland forum a "shadow" topic can be left in it's place pointing to where it has been moved to. Again this would ensure people found the other parts of the Joyland Books forum.

Ultimately though it's up to Nick as to how much of a crossover he's happy with in the Save Dreamland area.

I think it's fine to go off at a tangent if it's constructive, but not if it's anonymous trolls using it as a means to divert attention from the serious issues. There do seem to be a small minority of people who will sign up, without their identity and then begin to throw around cheap insults and micky mouse facts. This is a shame because you will begin to get people wondering whether controls need to be bought in.

Well, from my experience of the latest to sign up for this forum from the BPB forum, I think we may have more 'problems' to come.
