Shed anyone?

Hey all,

Not really much of a point to the topic apart from a random shed at dreamland (probally from Exodus).



As I said in another topic there's not much going on there at the moment apart from them removing things left over from the Exodus (mainly with JCB's).

I recognise that shed !!!

Built circa 1903 by renowned American shed builder Focus Wickes. Many of his sheds have been lost over recent years due to the introduction of new galvanised models which are apparently easier to maintain.

It really would be a shame to lose another valuable "woodie" such as that little beauty.

I am starting a campaign to try and (wood) preserve this rare example for future generations to enjoy at www.savethedreamlandshedwhichisjustinfr ... lway.co.uk (catchy uh !)

Join in and help keep the traditions of felt, clout nails and tongue and groove constructions alive !

UPDATE : I tried to contact Amanda Thompson at BPB for a comment as I reasonably assumed that the sheds future and current state of disrepair was her fault. Amanda was busy but a spokesman replied "what the hell are you talking about ?"

Yeah yeah, I know a cover up when I see one !

I could have tried for listing, but it seems that it's not in its original spot, been moved around a bit... and I don't think curtilage either...

Actually don't laugh, there was an interesting discussion over felt not so long ago on the archhistory mail group.

That was connected with the sheds Scott shipped out for his expeditions, and it's surprising the info which was forthcoming.

So you don't think English Heritage or The National Trust or Alan Titchmarsh would be interested in renovating this pile of old tat in my back garden then ?

It does have endangered wildlife in, well, I say endangered, it's the neighbours cat actually, but believe me, if I get hold of it, it wont be long for this world !


As an aside, get a copy of todays Mail. Interesting article about crested newts.

Dunno about listing - it's certainly leaning!

EH - hmmm, no chance they haven't any cash, NT - only if a fat donation is made for its upkeep... Mr T now, there's an idea! Seems a fine example of the type. There is actually a garden shed listed, but it's the one in which Benjamin Britten composed his music, and is more for historic merit than anything architectural. Some very large sheds at Farnborough now listed too which are not pretty but very important.
Was a major SAVE campaign with some success...
