Margate V Marbella
Holiday-Makers swap sunny spain for our isle
Margate could become a more popular holiday hot spot than Spanish resort Mabella, according to a report.
Post Office figures say more Brits are due to holiday in England this year at top destinations including Thanet.
Holidaymakers told the Post Office rhat one of the reasons they would like to stay at home is because it is more enviromentally friendly than using gas-guzzling planes to fly abroad.
Kevin McAdam, head of travel for the Post Office, said "People are now more than ever making important lifestyle decisions based on their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. As a result, many travellers are planning to make the most of the UK holiday hotspots.
"Our advice is the travel industry will have to wake up to the face Margate could be the new Marbella."
The news will be welcomed by visitor hot spots in the town including the Shell Grotto as well as attractions across the Spitfire and Hurricane Museum at Manston.
Marbella boasts an old quater, similar to Margate's Old Town, which is the home of unique art and craft stores.
The Spanish resort also has miles of golden sands including Funny Beach and Playa de Calahonda, and the castle Murallas del Castillo.
