English Heritage regional office may be able to help.
But not until tomorrow now!

With regards to the continuation of the campaign I'm all for making the developers task as difficult as possible now.
Strangely I'd kind of fallen into thinking they'd given up on burning it and expected it to end with demolition and a sit-in.

The regional EH office should be informed asap in the morning... although EH is really not responsible for Grade II in cases of fire etc they can at times help.
But important that they are there to assess the site before the fire crew or the council does.
NO work apart from making safe (and the site is fenced off) should be carried out to the remiander of the structure without EH being given the chance to assess.

One of the most important parts will be the biggest drop and the structure round it if the fire has damaged these sections to an extent where they are deemed unsafe then a restoration will be very hard to achive not impossible just very very hard.
In aviation presevation some people say if 75% of the original aircraft is used then its still original, 50% of the original is part replica, 25% or less of the original then its a replica, however some say just an original Data plate is enough to call a totally new build aircraft original...
Just lets not fall in to the same farce of Brightons West Pier when the Trust were calling it a restoration if only a very very small (about 5%) of the origianl structure was going to be used.
Zoid on!

Aircraft and listed structures aren't the same. I think nothing is impossible, but it doesn't belong to us...
EH Regional Office needs to be contacted asap! and whoever is the Historic Buildings officer got on site asap.

I cannot believe it...only just turned on my computer to find endless emails about the Scenic on fire. Those pictures and that YouTube video are just shocking. I am really gutted as I am sure we all are.
A tragic day for Margate. Let's hope enough is salvageable, although I am worried if the trains are also destroyed. It is criminal in every sense of the word.
I am moved to tears over the images...so sad.
David.

Have just been to have a look and found it really upsetting - I just hope that 'they' haven't won.
I think everyone in Thanet with a few braincells know what has happened here and it's been done in broad daylight and conveniently, when the children are off school so 'kids' get the blame.
Well I hope that the firestarter's luck has run out.

I had some sort of strange feeling and quite why I don't know, but logged on to the forum.
Just feel so helpless, like while they were chomping up Cyclone, despite all our efforts..
There's a comment I agree with on the youtube clip... maybe the language is a bit blue, but...

I felt physically sick when i first heard - a text from my daughter - and i still feel sick, two and a half hours later.
Hoping there is enough to salvage.

Well we can always ask the council seeing as half of them are on the board of directors of the company that owns the dreamland site. Nice little earner for them isnt it. Wont have any trouble getting planning permission will they, oops did i say to much again.

There's still a Planning Brief saying it has to be an amusement park, apart from enabling development.
Well the ED can help repaor the damage...

Jon said...
I've been down to have a look. The blaze is out, and I would guess about a quarter of the coaster has collapsed. It's salvagable.
