I have only just found this site (being an ex-pat margate boy0 and have wondered for some time what are the plans to reopen the cinema and in particulr (from my point of view0 get the wonderful Compton/Notterman organ playing again. It is a shame it is silent as it is one of a very few that are still in-situ in it original 'home'.

Read through the posts to see what's going on.
I believe the cinema is in limbo, but ultimately, THIS campaign would like to see it returned to use as originally intended, and perhaps incorporating museum-ish displays within, so it would actually serve a dual purpose.
In addition to visual arts, hopefully the space could be used for symposiums, lectures, social gatherings, etc.

because of westwood cross this is the reason why the dreamland cinema has closed down , i never did like the idea of westwood cross because its taken the heart out of margate , thanet should of been left as it was and not added a new complex at westwood , because of that its lead us in the situation we are now in

I'd have to disagree there! the one thing thanet needs in bucketloads is investment and development. Westwood isn't exactly the easiest place in the world to get to, its miles from a train station for instance, whereas the dreamland cinema is only a hundred yards from one! other area manage multiple cinemas in close proximity etc maidstone, chatham, lakeside

Let's hope that Dreamland's cinema can be opened again soon. The organ must be deteriorating daily.

As a kid I used to go to broadstairs cinema, I love that place, I'd be really really temped if it ever came up for sale

When I was still a lad living in Margate, we had 'The Plaza' The Classic' and in Cliftonville, 'The Cameo' cinemas as well as Dreamland. The ruins of the Astoria we still visible also and of course, in Cecil Square there was the Hippodrome. So to have nothing now ( with due repect to The Theatre Royal and Winter Gardens) seems to an absolute disgrace
