as a new member to the site i was wondering if anyone could tell me if they are going to re build the scenic railway because i cant realy see it happening?

if you cant see that the scenic railway will be re built you may as well not be a member on here , we only want possotive questions and answers on here , not negative

It's not true that negative comments are not allowed, but as a new member you are better off reading the history on the forum and you will find this is mostly answered.

Welcome to the site, Luke - why don't you browse through some of the threads on here and have a look at the news items on the Joyland Books page. Then you will have a better idea of what is going on.

The order is in fact to rebuild the railway, so that's good.
As of right now, there's no time frame, and with winter having set in, don't look for anything to get done.
We're hopeful visual progress will start in the spring.

Luke, unfortunately, we do get some people here who revel in tormenting us, so please forgive any outbursts. The membership here takes Dreamland and the Railway very seriously and we do tend to be a little defensive.

'dreamland,' we're here to educate and bring interested parties together, not scare them off. Anyone interested enough to find this forum deserves a fair shake. Jo is right, try to read posts with an air of enthusiasm and curiosity. it makes a difference in their tone.

Hi Luke, and welcome to the forum. No one can be sure that the Scenic Railway will be rebuilt but it is the plan at the moment and for it to become the centrepiece of a Heritage Amusement park on the Dreamland site. The ride has had the fire damage cleared and made safe and secure for the time being while further discussions are taking place with the owners and relevant parties. As and when there is news to report you will find it on our latest news page.

As Dave says, no-one knows at the moment what will happen and as we don't own the land, re-building of the Scenic Railway isn't within our power.

However, it is unlikely that the site will be re-developed any time soon- figures from the Halifax released earlier this morning show that the average property has fallen in value by nearly £40,000 since the peak in August 2007, and it is likely that house prices have at least as far again to fall before we reach the end of the crash. There are hundreds of half-built developments around the country which have simply been mothballed and abandoned. I see them every day.

Obviously the value of the Dreamland site has fallen in line with this, and hopefully there will come a time when the owners finally give up this half-baked idea of building hundreds of crappy flats that nobody wants, and are prepared to sell the land for its true value as an amusement park.

All we can do is wait and see and keep our fingers crossed.

I've been following this for the best part of 12 months on the internet, and have memories back as far as I can remember of Drealand, Margate and the surrounding areas. Now and after reading Vince Charlie and Sam's comment can possibly offer you a little comfort.

I have worked in the construction industry for a number of years now and you are right no one is building anything at the moment, most of the companies including the big ones could not even afford to build a garage let alone hundreds of flats and they are sheding sites like it's going out of fasion. A lot of these you see and think are mothballed are sites which companies are activly trying to sell. So Dreamland being a blank canvas and a pain in the backside to it's owners would be an ideal asset to get rid of, as it's costing them money and they are doing nothing for themselves.

So if you want to return Dreamland to what it rightfully should be and not a make do heritage park get then ready. I think your chance maybe closer than you think.

You have it all there ready, the site, the location, the infastructure, the seaside attraction and your most important assets are protected under listing status. So take your chance guys and gals and if you can't and the big boys like Blackpool Pleasure Beach, or the Bembom's come knocking again welcome them in. Margate needs Dreamland as much as Dreamland needs Margate. The Money it will generate will breath new life. Build flats and most of them will be empty 5 days a week while people work in the city. Yes the owners maybe richer but it's no good if they are richer and not there.

Don't give up the fight or hope.

Build flats and all of them will be empty 7 days a week because nobody will buy them. Nobody would want to buy them and even if they did, nobody would lend them the money to buy them. The property bubble has well and truly burst.

But I think Mr Godden, Mr Hunter and "Bob" probably realise this now.
