Below, the Tagada, I've never seen one of these before either.

It spun, it jumped up and down, it was mental. No lap belt, no restraint at all, riders clung on to dear life but were still being thrown out of the seat and onto the floor.

How often do you get the chance to see a Lancaster bomber being escorted by two Spitfires?













Those little toddlers who used to ride the Scenic Railway eight or ten times every Saturday afternoon have definitely lost their cuteness now. All three of us will hate Jimmy Godden until the end of our days.












If you didn't make it this year, it's a "must-do" for next year!

Hear that there was a bit of a row between the security and spectators, even the police were involved on the Saturday.

Something to do with people getting into a restricted zone too close to the flight line, so much so that the Red Arrows threatened to abbondon the display.

If was was a balls up on the part of the council then serious questions will be asked by the CAA.

I was doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride on Sunday (54 miles completed in four and half hours on my flying recumbent bike BTW) but got home to Whitstable in time to see the BoB Memorial Flight bank and turn at full throttle over my house, flying so low I could the serial numbers on the sides. Glad the Lancaster kept its bomb doors shut!

The planes would have done a second fly past at an event in Tankerton on their way home to Duxford after Margate. Most impressive.

We originally planned to go on Saturday but the stars were unfavourable and we went on Sunday, so I have no knowledge of this.

I did however see a very large Police "meat wagon" parked on the seafront which looked at bit incongruous. I suppose it was there in case of a repeat of any incident such as the one you mention.

I'm a bit puzzled though. The promenade between the grassed area on which the event took place and the clifftop was fenced off and this is presumably the area referred to, but this is only about 20' wide so I really can't see why the Red Arrows couldn't just fly 20' further away if they're that good.

Well, I'm sure that was a memorable experience too... performing before an audience is something I always wanted to do, and would no doubt have done, were it not for the fact that I am completely talentless!

If it's on next year and you aren't previously engaged, try to get down, it was a fantastic day, and the air show was free.

When I said "a Lancaster and two Spitfires", obviously what I meant was "a Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane".

Don't they have a ride like the Tagada indoors in Blackpool?

It's a sort of cross between the Joy Wheel and the Social Mixer!

The Tagada I suppose does have its roots in these old fun house machines.

The Tagada at the Margate Big Event is the same as the one at Blackpool Pleasure Beach inside Trauma Towers.
