Margate Degeneration

A report by Fiona Hamilton painted a bleak picture of Margate. It was described as a dilapidated foreshore —consisting of rundown shops, fast-food outlets and derelict arcades and plenty of drunks, She described it as having got dramtically worse in the last 12 months with many boarded up shops and deralict hotels. A bleak place best avoided as she put it.

Margate has a hell of a way to go if it is to atract any visitors at all. It's image is dreadful

Margate is a mess. There is no coherent strategy. In fact there is no strategy at all. Ill conceived and ill thought out plans with no proper market research behind them. Shops & Hotels closing down by the day

You need to ask why would any one want to come to Margate & the simple answer to that is you would not want to go there. Margate is now know as Benefits on Sea.

Now that may be tough but thats where Margate is at present. It is one of the worst dumps in the UK and that is from the goverments own statistics.

As the report states, this is at least partially due to the closure of Dreamland.

Really, it's a shame that Mr Godden so disasterously mis-read the property market, particularly as theme parks, such as Adventure Island, thrive in recessions, and Dreamland could currently be operating highly profitably.

I think that once it is actually confirmed and a date set and plans have been finalised by the Dremalnd Trust things will change for Margate very quickly.

I am pretty certain that once Dreamland starts to progress shops, hotels/b&b's will very quickly start to re-open & the towns image will almost change over night.

Margate was and always has been a lovely place to go especially when dreamland was there. With Regards to a certain person ---- they say one man cannot make a difference, well he certainly did to Margate when he closed Dreamland. Thankfully there are an awful lot of people that want to see Margate returned to its former glory!!!
