Hi All,
With all the shops , Hotels and pubs shut down in Margate, What is going to be done to bring them back to help with the opening of Dreamland and Margate, do you think TDC have got it in hand, I bet not !!!!!

Margate has lost too much over the years, its going to be hard getting it back.

It can only be hoped that the re-opening of Dreamland alongside the Turner will pull in enough visitors to make the hotels, shops and pubs viable once again, so new owners will wish to take them on as businesses.

They don't belong to Thanet. Regeneration can only be done a step at a time.

Trouble is, all of the former hotels have been turned into flats and bedsits. Too late to get them back now.

If some of the old hotels are still 'doss houses' aka HMOs, there might be a chance these could be restored into hotels. A couple did a lovely job in Hawley Square (as featured on TV about a month ago) so it can be done.

Shame Margate was allowed to decline so badly, Bournemouth, Brighton, Weymouth etc have all managed to hold on to their resorts with plenty of hotels to offer. Disgraceful what was allowed at such a lovely historic resort such as Margate.

I'm not sure it was 'allowed', it just happened - the running down of Dreamland had repercussions.
