Cuts made to each Sea Change project

The Sea Change grants have ended, and the government has cut the cash already awarded. It seems Dreamland will lose over eighty thosand pounds. Ouch.

Bad news, but it could have been a lot worse.

Shocking to be cutting cash already allocated though.

The original Sea Change amount was 3.7m so in theory we are still up on the original amount so not really a massive blow to the project.

It's sad that a grant programme that in itself wasn't massive, but was the catalyst for good things to happen to our beleagured seaside towns, is being cut at all, and worse, not continued.

Gesture politics; I wonder if seaside towns will now just be ignored once again, after the flurry of government interest in recent times?

the worst bit, at least for me! comes right at the end. The MLA are the people who run the PRISM grants. A lot of heritage technology is restored with this funding...amongst other things.

These cuts, and so many of the other changes imposed by the gov't, are Not going to help get the UK economy out of the present recession....

I visited Margate's Old Town last Sunday for the Soul Festival and caught this story featured on the front page of the Thanet Extra when I visited the G coffee shop. Its headline read an £80,000 cut in the Sea Change grant, quite a sizeable cut in my opinion. I commented a while ago on another thread how I feared for future seaside allocations after the previous Government's welcomed commitment.

As ever my fears appear to have been sadly proven, although I do find it quite despicable that the incoming administration could action such things, particularly to previous allocation awards. Like Vince's previous comment I have to say I fully concur.
