Heritage Dreamland Tour

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone was going to attend the scheduled Heritage Tour for today (1100-1300). I've just realised I could actually attend now at a push. Just wondered if anyone else had pre-booked for this; it did sound interesting so I might just see if I can squeeze a trip in before my hectic Dutch weekend riding their Troy wooden coaster for a 24 hours challenge!

Here's the info from the News page;

Dreamland is offering a tour of the world famous amusement park site and a presentation about its future as the world’s first heritage amusement park as part of Margate Heritage Open Days next month. The guided tour and talk, which is to be held on Friday 10th September, will take two hours, and the event starts at Marine Terrace. To book call 01843 609270.

Would have loved to have been there but by the time I saw the "ad" a couple of weeks ago I was unable to change my work committments to fit in with the timing of the tour.

Actually, I spoke to Jan Leandro regarding this event before 10am this morning and she advised me that this had been oversubscribed and she was now doing an afternoon tour too.

Great to hear how successful it has been; I also had prior commitments but ironically I could've now attended if there'd been some places. She did say she'd be looking to do further tours in the near future if possible though, so there's still hope for those who have missed out this time.

as martin said above, glad to hear the tour was so well attended.
was hoping to be there just couldnt get the time from work so am very pleased to hear that there may be a tour in the future, if its a weekend then im a definate!
just a quick question for anyone that may have been there , was the tour just outside around the scenic and menagerie cages or did it also include the cinema building? would be great to see inside there again.

Andy, I was part of the afternoon tour. Jan, Nick and the scenic railway guy (sorry, I forgot the name) did a wonderful job in showing our group around. Yes, it did include the old cinema, although with the place in complete darkness and with just one torch to guide us we did not see too much - in the true sense of the word! I was pleasently surprised at the good condition of the place. Nick was extremely knowlegable on the history of Dreamland and I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hour tour.

many thanks for replying, am now even more hopeful of future tours knowing the cinema was open!
its strange, it never crossed my mind that the electric would be off in the building (must remember to get very large torch)
good also to hear that nick and dave were doing the tour, you cant get much more knowledgable than those two!

Dave, sorry I forgot your name, I was thoroughly absorbed with all the information you and Nick were giving us.

Look forward to riding the scenic railway again - but use the brake carefully, I'm not as young as I once was!
