Canterbury Christ Church University’s Broadstairs Campus will be hosting a visionary lecture on the Dreamland Margate project on Thursday 3 March.

Jonathan Bryant, Project Director at the Dreamland Trust, will give the audience an insight into the past and the future of what is expected to be a unique and quintessentially British visitor attraction for Margate.

By illustrating the project’s historical perspective, including its recent and less fortunate past, the lecture will reveal how far the project has been developed and how much work remains to be done before the park becomes fully operational in 2013.

The lecture starts at 6pm and is open to the public. It will take place at the Broadstairs Campus, Northwood Road, Broadstairs, CT10 2WA.

I hate to say this, but I just called the University to get a ticket and, amazingly, I was told they only had one left. (I was going to try to get another one for a friend to join me but obviously that wasn't going to work).

Apparently the lecture has been very popular. Hope to see a few other "Campaigners" there on Thursday.

That's a shame, I was hoping to go, hopefully there will be a report on it here or on the dreamlandmargate site.

Hi Vince - I feel bad I seem to have got the last ticket for this. You could try calling to see if you could get on a reserve list or something I guess in case people don't show up on the night. (I did this for a film event recently and got lucky).

Otherwise I'll let you know should I suddenly not be able to make this event.

The fact that it's sold out is a good indication of the interest level in the project. That's good news in and of itself.

Hi all

Just not long got back from the event (took a side trip afterwards to justify the 50 mile each way journey!) I found it an interesting talk, with projected still images; some I'd never seen before. The room looked very full but it seemed like there were a few empty places; hope you got lucky Vince, although I can't say I noticed anyone I knew at the event. Apart from Mick Tomlinson, the Mayor of Margate, at the front.

I was informed afterwards that they are going to put up a podcast for people who couldn't make it to view on-line quite soon.

PS The only really new thing I learnt last night was that, during the inspection of the cinema building, it was found that the building contractors had apparently upturned the bricks to save mortar. This will now add considerably to restoration works we were told.

I'm not sure what that means. Were they laid in sideways so they'd stretch further (fewer used)?

I wasn't quite sure of the terminology to explain so I got this from diydata.com:

"When you come to actual (brick) laying, you will note that your bricks have an indent on one face, called a 'frog'. The brick should be laid with the frog up, this will ensure that the frog is then filled with mortar as work progresses and no voids are left within the wall."

It seems the bricks for Dreamland were laid with the frog facing downwards to save on mortar. Hope that helps!
