Heritage Lottery Fund awards £3m to Dreamland Margate

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

The Minister writes on his blog.

If he wants a collection of 'vintage one-armed bandits' at Dreamland he can maybe cough up the dosh?

Unsure if he understands the difference between an amusement park and an arcade actually.

As for the Turner being next door... sigh.

It's interesting to note that when Her Majesty the Queen visited the Turner Centre last week, they routed her cortège through Victoria traffic lights, presumably so she would not see Margate seafront.

To be fair his actual comment is...

Assuming, as I do, that the finished article contains a selection of vintage one-armed bandits as well as the rides

To be honest you would assume that a heritage theme park would have vintage slot machines, it doesn't read as though he doesn't understand the difference just that he hopes there will be vintage slot machines there.

Strange how people can read the same thing differently!

I took the linked article as positive as well. A vintage arcade in addition to the rides would seem to be a natural fit for the Heritage Park. Carters Steam Fair being a good proof of this with their old penny arcade.

Yup. We have an arcade of antique amusement machines here that's very popular.

I think I have posted before that my friend David Harper has expressed an interest in providing a penny arcade for Margate. I know him from the Great Dorset Steam Fair where he has run his mobile penny arcade for at least 10 years.

I was being tongue in cheek. I suspect the Minister has a minion who writes his blogs anyhow.

His Department remit is also gambling I believe...
