Equipment removed from Pleasureland Southport

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

I believe the Social Wheel was salvaged, albeit sawn in half I seem to recall to accommodate its transit to Kent. A few other items were also acquired I seem to remember, not sure about the Fun House's moving stairs and walk through moving wheel etc though. I'm sure Nick can confirm the situation far better than me though (I think there was a forum mention some time ago here somewhere if one has time to trawl!)

I also recall the River Caves' boats and possibly working mechanisms like the motor and water wheel being salvaged also, however the Haunted Swing was left in situ I believe owing to asbestos issues sadly. (I do hope that can be salvaged too for the new Dreamland). Such a travesty still in my view what happened to such a treasure like Pleasureland. I'm just so glad I made the trek there several times now in its glory days.

Despite the source being kind of old and outdated it says here that the machines acquired for Dreamland are...
The Social Mixer
Moving Steps
Moving Stairs
Moving Floors
Wooden Maze
Moving Ramp

Source: The old Heritage park proposals which were active before the 'Dreamland Margate' website was created. I would add a link but it is not working.

Again I do not know how accurate that is but maybe it helped you.

Yes a number of us tried to save Pleasureland and the Cyclone. We were badly let down by the DCMS and English Heritage, who made major admin mistakes; meanwhile Ms Thompson and her wrecking crew got to work.

I also recall so much bile being thrown at us by supporters of BPB. Not good.

I'm sure Nick will be able to tell us exactly what there now is. I know some things were left in situ until Dreamland was a certaintly, others removed for reconstruction/copying for Dreamland.

That was a real shame. The Cyclone had been recently overhauled and was in excellent condition as was the other coaster.

The only things we didn't get out were a set of moving stairs and the wooden 'maze'.

Hey there guys,

Does anyone if they are going to put back at least some of the things taken out? I was wondering whether it is still worth my time going? :(
