Vintage rides missing from Dreamland

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Outrageous.

But not surprising; all of us have known all along that, since the very start, their cloaked veil of “hey, we care!” has been a tiresome, predictable smokescreen. It has been an enormous pleasure to see their efforts constantly thwarted.

MTRC have gone to great lengths to hide his true colours during their campaign, but his latest move shows them up to be the puerile, petty and childish bunch of greed-driven, selfish, self-serving morons that they truly are. This was no mistake – they have been comprehensively defeated; they knew full well what was in those containers, and they purposefully didn’t contact Nick Laister or anyone from the Dreamland Trust – one call is all that it would of taken; there wouldn’t have been a great deal of scrap value, the true value was in Toby’s gang sticking the knife into those who have plagued him all along.

Where is your dignity MTRC? Where is your class? You haven’t even got the good grace to walk away with your head held high. If there is any option to improve security before their departure, I would take it because I doubt this will be the last stunt they will pull. Greedy businessmen always think they have the upper hand, which makes them enormously (and wonderfully) predictable.

surely if it was things in the container were purchased by fundraising funds then could everybody who donated involve the police as a case of theft. If there were many complaints then the police would have to investigate

The rides haven't been returned. The containers on the site are the ones that were not removed. We estimate so far 30% have been lost. We do have some leads, though, which we are following up.

We can't get on site to check, so we do not know 100% what has gone. But we have an idea based on our surveys of what was in each container. But some items outside containers appear to have gone as well.

Just another five days till the site vests to the council.

The fact that it was taken off site and probably sold on is appalling. Even if the items can't be recovered, I truly hope there is enough evidence to convict those responsible.

Is the new fence something to do with a boundary . Does that mean MTCRC will have a plot of land along side Dreamland? I guess Goddens gap must still be owned by them also? The Dreamland Arcade looks trashed since they have pulled out of it.

sad that this would go on,i take none of the surrounding roads have cctv. Some rides could be replaced as there are still more going about but the rareities like the whip, mouse, catterpillar and baby whip are pretty much unique,it would be very hard to pass these on even for scrap value

They have acted within their rights with regard to abandoned goods and the law of Tort. The owners were advised to collect and remove their good as they had not been paying for storage but they failed to collect the goods. This give the legal right to the owners of the land to remove the goods and dispose of them

It is rather difficult for people to "collect and remove their good (sic)" when they are refused access in the first place, Bob. As for them being abandoned, well - they were as close as they could possibly be to the place where they were supposed to be used and were all ready to be renovated and installed in situ.

under uk law items on a site like this the owners would have have to notify whoever they belonged to or put a sign on the front telling in the mentioned items are not removed within 3 weeks then the owners would be able to do what they like with them. The same is done for repossessions of property (houses flats etc)well in scotland anyway
