In case anyone is feeling flush with funds at the moment, someone is selling a copy of the 1935 Dreamland cinema programme on Ebay - starting bids at £50 though.

I have a copy myself and it does offer quite a lot of good info and plenty of period adverts.

They do turn up form time to time in tatty condition but this one, says the seller in Shropshire, is in good nick.

The cinema will be 70 years old in March by the way - the week before easter. I have been trying to interest Nick L in a celebration event ..........

Ah, Nick now I'm depressed. I once saw one of these programmes in a Margate antiques shop for £14. I didn't buy it and by the time I had realised what a bargain it was it had gone. It haunts me still!

I have been trying to make some enquiries about a celebration event. Watch this space, as they say.

You must be joking about funds this time of the year!

Anyway, as my other main passion in life is cinema I would welcome any celebration for their 70th birthday; how about entry tickets at 1935 equivalent prices. (Maidstone's Hazlitt Theatre has just done a similar, albeit limited quantities, stunt to celebrate their 50th year).

Incidentally, was that blue ceiling with chandelier featured in Tracey Emin's film "Top Spot" actually inside the cinema building? - I saw a film there, I hate to say it, for my first ever time last summer and thought the building interior was quite stunning. As much as I love the choice of modern day multiplexes they can never compete on their building style. Luckily Margate has no such rivalry yet so hopefully this cinema has a good life ahead of it.
