There's a bit about it here http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/southeas ... tory.shtml and there's a bit more to be found by Googling but it's well worth a visit, as is Margate Caves which is a few hundred yards away.

Can't believe I've lived down here for so long and never even heard of it but then again I was born up in Hastings so surpose I will use that as an excuse :) Well I will have to drop by at some point to check it out

Shell Grotto

Postby porterm » 25 Apr 2005, 14:19

I remember in the eighties (and probably before) there used to be a small advertisement poster on the wall outside the old park gates opposite the Scenic Railway near the old white "generator house" looking building. The poster had directions to the Shell Grotto on it as well, and I eventually got to go there in the late eighties.

Just for nostalgia, on my first visit to Dreamland I seem to remember seeing a film poster for the infamous Jack Nicholson film "The Shining" with his classic gaze from behind that door. This was when we exited the park from the above same gates towards the shops.
