Run Down Margate

The Harbour Site could be a Prime Site instead of the Dump it is. It could be turned into a first class Resturant/Snack Bar with Panaramic Sea Views and a Sun Terrace Outside.

What really concerns me is that there is no drive or vision to turn Margate around. The History & Heritage of Margate is as a seaside resort. You cannot though turn the clock back and people will not take their main holiday in Margate but there is a growing market for short breaks but Margate needs to provide the facilities that people expect nowadays and the run down state of Margate comes knowhere near that expectation.

The Seafront area say from about the Railway Station to the Old Harbour could be turned into an attractive thriving area with some drive and imagination. What we are more likely to get though is the usual tacky Shopping Centre & an even tackier Arts Centre, neither of which are needed. Town Centre shopping is in decline and will continue to decline.

Town Centres should increasingly be given over to Leisure & Entertainment and not shopping. Do councils seriously think people are going to travel into town on clapped out expensive Bus services and struggle around the town with their shopping and then struggle home on a Bus with it ? If they do and I think they do, they are in cloud Cuckoo land.
