Plans to keep the majority of Dreamland as an amusement park have been dropped in view of the latest research which clearly shows that it will not be viable. The Scenic Railwaywill be retained and a few other small rides will be included but the rest of the site is now to redeveloped for other Leisure use and will include some retail.

Fact : Someone anonymous who may or may not possibly be related to the company wishing to redevelop the site for profit wrote the following on an internet forum -

How about a few real facts from "Bob" - Where's this new research suddently come from and how do you know what will be approved for re-development on the site?

I am getting quite tired of you posting your negative comments general lies. I understand fully why you wish to keep on posting on this forum and that is to bring us all down by trying to convince us their is no hope.

As you can see buy other posts that you are not having an impact on any of us so just do us all a favour and leave.

It may not be the News you wished to hear but neither the Company nor Thanet District Council wish to underight the large losses that would be incurred by Running the Dreamland site as an Amusement back. The world has moved on from the 70's. The crowds no longer come to seaside resorts in fact they avoid them. The days of Kiss Me quick Hats and the obligatory visit to an Amusement park and a few hours on the beach have gone. We need to move on rather then try to turn the clock back. Its sad but Dreamlands days are over.

I have spent 2 summer seasons helping out on the day to day running of the Scenic and every day i am faced with the same questions from the "TOURISTS" where have all the rides gone, Margate was always such a wonderful day out. People are still arriving with all their packed lunches ready for a great day out and are instead great ed with the sickening and unwelcome concrete mess that you and your Conrade's have created. They have to sit down on some disgusting looking benches that you have just simply dumped with that bloody JCB.
Bob i clearly know who you are and who you are speaking for.

I watch you in the summer as you came on to the scenic poking your nose about to see what we were up to, and to see the disgusted look on your face when you realised that we were painting parts of the scenic generaly a giving it a bit of TLC was a picture.

We have all now heard your one sided views which are based on spurious evidence and the deliberate refusal to accept obvious 'key facts'; we have seen your refusal to answer the perfectly reasonable questions put to you. Thanks for being such an embarrassment to the sellers and developers. You are making our case a lot stronger and give us all new hope!!!!!!!

How come Blackpool Pleasure Beach gets 6 or 7 million visitors a year then?

Hi Bob and yes welcome back. It may be that Bob is sometimes a little economical with the truth, however if he the only representative from this development company who uses this forum (I assume I can call him that as otherwise I don't see how he would have such information!). Anyhow when I wrote a letter to the Coucil the head of Leisure and Toruism for Margate responded saying that the Council will not be accepting residential or retail use for the site. I may use Bob's words of wisdom to write another letter to the council and see what they make of it. Either way if Bob is telling the truth then we ought to act on what he is saying, if he isn't telling the truth then it will make the development company look bad and they would be under pressure to sack him (although I have no reason to believe he isn't telling the truth).

To be honest to a certain extent it was perhaps inevitable that once the conservatives told them they could redevlopment the site if they thought it wasn't viable then the owners would decide it wasn't viable. So it looks like the whole site is to be turned into a 365 days a year farmers market with the Scenic running through the middle (previously I asked Bob what leisure attractions they could add to the site other than an amusement park and he confidently revealed their only plans were for a gian tfarmers market.)

Bob recons it will be a bit like Fantasy Island but a little less rides and a little more speciality cheese

Margate is not Blackpool by any stretch of the imagination. Blackpool does still attract large numbers but those numbers are declining year on year and it mainly caters for an older clientel. It has tried to boost numbers by catering for Pub crawls and the pink pound but numbers have contibued to slowly decline. The simple fact is people no longer want the old style seaside holiday. They go abroad for their holidays and days out are to large purpose built Theme parks in good locations. Margate does not fit that bill. I am sure you will disagree but we have to cater for the mass market and not a few enthusiast rooted in the past. You are the fairground equivalent of the Steam Engine train spotters type, very enthusiastic about their hobby but very small in number. There not a business to be made out of it.

Well you can go on a pub crawl anywhere in Britain so that's hardly a niche market, whereas an amusement park is something a little more special.

Well this develeopment company won't want you saying that. I think the official line is "Margate is too good for an old style amusement park"

ps In reference to my previous post does all this mean that a farmers market selling 200 varieties of speciality cheese is for the mass market?

I think we should check Barry's facts (??!) by asking questions of the people who are actually going to make these decisions. Where does Barry's research come from? Who has taken these decisions? I think we should be told. As usual Bob/Barry makes these statements that he can't/won't back up with any evidence. It really is fantastic. Please, please keep up the good work Barry. You do keep us amused.

I never said Margate was like Blackpool, I was just responding to your statement that people do not go to seaside resorts anymore which is clearly untrue as Blackpool Pleasure Beach is miles ahead as the UKs number one attraction.
