If they are doing anything of any structural nature, I hope they have planning approval.

I dout they are doing anything illegal without planning approval as surely that could shoot themselves in the foot. If anything would swing opinion against the developers that kind of thing would (not that the poll on the Thanet Gazette website suggests we need to swing public opinion in our favour. What is that I see? 69% of people think Dreamland should be developed as an amusement park. Well no surprises there then!)
Unfortunately what with the conservatives holding a majority I fear they won't need to do anything illegal to get permssion to knock down the buildings they have proposed demolision for and some silly person may leave a load of smouldering cigeratte butts on the Scenics track which would be the end of that.
What it will do is ensure that when the park opens this year with these trees gone the park will feel even more run down and tacky than it has over the last few years. This will be one of the many strategies that guarentee fewer people want to visit and if the developers are lucky maybe it won't even by viable.

This is prepatory groundworks clearance which will be splitting the site up. A part of the site will be fenced off for the amusement park. This will allow work on the rest of the site to be carried out safely whilst allowing the amusement park to continue trading this summer. I hope this clarifies the position.

WHAT? So have you recieve permission to demolish thos buildings which we objected to? If so then I'm rather dissappointed in the Counci as it is rather premature. So far we've been presented so many plans for the site (supermarket, housing, casino, pot holes etc, entire site as an amusement park) I don't really believe they know what they are doing with the site yet. Moreover a condition of listed building coverage is that effort must be made to incorporate a structure in new development has clearly not been made.
Alternatively if you have not yet received permission you must be very confident you will. Either way I'm writing to the Council to ask them why I only recieved acknowledgement for 3 of the 5 objections and at the same time will express my concerns about this.

This prepatory work does not involve any demolition. It is to enable a safe fenced off area to be provided for this summers fairground.

Yes have checked the website and it's still current and not decided but surely this just makes the park even more smaller than before?
P.s thought to build a fence you need to do planning permission also, remember on ukplanning there being a request about the fence for the car park?

This is my worry precisely. My above post was supposed to be a little bit ironic (well the first paragraph anyway) The point is they haven't got permission yet so they shouldn't be erecting fencing ready for knocking these buildings down. Whatever their intentions are it gives the impression that the Council have already reached a decission. Alternatively by publically displaying such confidence that the building will be demolished over the next season you can't help wondering whether they know something we don't.
The fact they are making it so clear they have the bulldozers ready to move in is effectively putting unfair pressure on the council.

All,
There was an advertisement in last weeks World's Fair which I have sent to Nick to be posted as a news item.
It reads 'DREAMLAND 2006 To let for individual operators 10 serviced pitches available April 1 to October 31'
'Site owners will undertake all advertising'
'New beach Access'
'Big Wheel site available, visible from the promenade'
'The world famous Dreamland Scenic Rollercoaster will run throughout the season'
ETC

The advert is on the News page now - thanks for sending it, Tony. It also appears in today's edition of World's Fair.

I am still unsure where abouts they are erecting the new fence, but last summer a new fence surrounded the park anyway.
Just taking a guess, but i would think that whoever is putting the fence up is attempting to shrink the space for rides ONCE AGAIN!
I cannot believe that this is being allowed to happen. The developers are simply jumping the gun and carrying out work as if demolishions are going to take place. As Vince said earlier its as if the developers already know the outcome. I do not think this is true i simply thing that the developers are doing this to put more pressure on the council to make the decision that they want.
