World’s largest travelling rollercoaster Munich Looping is coming to Hyde Park

The world’s largest transportable rollercoaster is set to arrive in London for the first time in little over a week. The big dipper, known in England as Munich Looping, will make its UK debut as the star of Hyde Park’s 10th annual Winter Wonderland, which runs from next Friday, November 18, until January 2.

The coaster is a popular attraction across Germany, appearing at many carnivals throughout the year, including Munich’s world famous Oktoberfest, where it made its first appearance in 1989. The coaster has five loop-the-loops as part of its 4,101 feet track. These hoops generate G-forces of up to 5.2G, which is equivalent to the amount an F1 driver experiences during a Grand Prix. It is still about half that of what a race plane pilot endures.

Assembled in just a few days and Margate's Scenic is still out of action since the Summer with a replacement lift hill rope. No mention on their website. I have lost faith in Dreamland, just faded memories of what was once a great park.

Wow, what a ride! An engineering masterpiece, a world class ride and without a doubt, aesthetically, a work of art to behold.

You can instantly recognise the Looping star legacy from the first drop and and the first loop, but after that the trains power through tight banked curves and another four loops. It is so fast but smooth, it is unbelievable. You travel the ride feeling exhilirated and leave it in a state of disbelief.

The whole operation is so professional and efficient. There is 8 pay boxes and when we first rode it, it had three trains running, meaning that we were on the ride within 5 minutes. The second time we rode, there were four trains, departing at 40 second intervals and eight staff loading the train. I'm told it can run five! Absolutely amazing.

If you enjoy Roller Coasters this is a must, it is the first time it has been to England and who knows may never been seen again. If you have fond memories of the looping star, this will take you back and then blow your mind!

Found an article which seems to be about 5 years old on the cost of new big hitter machinery and how the fairs in Europe cannot afford the regular changes when there was a interesting bit on Olympia Looping.

Now if that's the cost from Hamburg to Munich then Munich to London would work out around £56,000. So add the rising cost of fuel etc since the article was written then it's going to be a mammoth amount.

The news that Barth brought over extra ticket booths and cars last week and so are now running all 7 cars on all 5 trains and regularly have the 5 trains running is great considering this usually only happens at Oktoberfest and still while they are charging £9 a ride. I got to ride it at the back on Saturday with my 9 year old, was his first looping coaster as well. It is an amazing ride and our theme parks could learn a thing or two about how to run a ride quick & efficiently and keep an old girl running smoothly.

I went down to Hyde Park last weekend and they have a truly fantastic selection of roller coasters - I counted nine different coasters! The highlight was of course Olympia Looping, which was fabulous - very intense and terrific fun. People have already posted some excellent pictures here, thanks for those. I was also really impressed with "Wilde Maus XXL" which seems to be a Maurer Wild Mouse which has been extended to a significantly greater height and an extra "lap", that was really good fun. Would recommend any coaster fan to visit.

I have had the pleasure of riding Olympia Looping twice since its debut in Hyde Park. Truly sweet ride given its age and the fact it is a traveling rollercoaster. Was £9.00 to ride so could not enjoy it too much though defientely worth it. Worst part was probably the shoulder restraints which dug into me a fair bit and little legroom.

Sad I never got to experience the Looping Star at Dreamland though if any part of it was like Olympia, I missed out on a good ride.
