29th April 2006 - The first Save Dreamland disco

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Four days to go people.

Things are shaping up pretty well but it would be great to get as much support as we can from Save Dreamland Campaigners - please don't hesitate to bring your friends and family with you because it will be a superb atmosphere with food and music to suit everyone. If you can't stay all evening or have other plans, pop in for half an hour and say hello.

My sincerest thanks to Jim Douglas Jr who has generously stood by his ebay bid and contributed £13.50 towards the amount raised on the night.

Let's check the fundraising totaliser:£13.50!

Hopefully we will hit a reasonable figure on Saturday.

And I have a cheque from the winning ebayer.

New fundraising totaliser: £28.50!

I'm sure we will hit a very reasonable figure on Saturday. Apart from anything else, we have some great raffle prizes (including four free passes to Adventure Island, which would set you back nearly £80).

I can't wait...

Wish I could be there.
Know I'll be thinking of you.

This weekend will be very special for me. As you can see by my signature, I'm a big fan of Herbie the Love Bug. I'm an administrator at LoveBugFans.com and was lucky enough to attend the world premier of "Herbie: Fully Loaded" by invitation last year in Hollywood.
Another administrator lives at the opposite end of the country in Florida and owns original Disney Herbie #2. The car was Porsche modified for the tougher racing scenes in 1969's "The Love Bug". I'm off to Florida to escort the car to a rare appearance at a car show this weekend.
This is a childhood dream come true for me. If any of the VWs used in the first movie come close to being the "real" Herbie (there were 9 and only 3 or 4 survive), this is the one that actually has the guts to pull it off. Anyway, I won't just get to see the car, I'll actually be driving it and spend the entire weekend in Herbie's company. How cool is that?

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you as I'm starting to get to know some of you from e-mails and your posting styles.
I encourage anyone too far away to attend to contact Dave D and contribute what you can.
Let's save the park, people.

Thanks to everyone for their best wishes. I may not get another chance to post before the actual event so safe journey down for all those who can make it and it will be a superb evening.

Jim, as someone who made a Herbie out of cardboard boxes (brown ones sadly) as a wee lad and biro-ed a number 53 on the side while humming the theme tune, I can fully appreciate your appreciation. Just ignore that pesky Peter Thorndyke when you get behind the wheel........!

Vince/Dave,

Any idea of the pricing on the raffle tickets, might try and remove a little bit of cash from a few people at work !

Cheers

I was going to do them for £1 a strip. As well as the Adventure Island passes, we have prizes from the Museum of Kent Life, Harbour Café Bar in Margate (dinner for two), AMF Bowling in Margate, the Royal Engineers Museum, Planet Lazer in Canterbury, Chalkwell Bus Tours, the Shell Grotto (of course), plus champagne and chocolates, wine (thanks Susan), the obligatory cuddly toy, amusement park stuff from Nick and a rather spiffing framed postcard collection (thank you Paul!).

Go sell!

sounds good to me! Thanks for the times Hairy Vince and ya I normally check the website but other day was in a rush off to work.

Any idea what time the raffle will be done at and what time it should all be finishing at?

I guess we'll be finished at around midnight, with the pub opposite an option for further jollities.

Don't hold me to this Ian, but I very much doubt we'll be drawing the raffle before 9ish. And it may be later. Depends on how many tickets we have sold!

Well, this will be my last posting before tonights extravaganza.

I hope to see as many of you as possible....I will be the bloke wearing the red shorts!!!!

Thanks to all those who have

1 - Advertised the event
2 - Decided to come and party tonight
3 - Checked out the website after hearing about the campaign for the first time
4 - Donated either time, raffle prizes or anything else

Also massive respect to Dave D and Sarah for coming up with this great idea whilst drunk in a pub in Margate....all the best ideas come from drunk people (that is why, being tee total, I never have any good ideas!)

It's time to party like it is on sale for 19.99

My camera hates low light levels so here's the first picture I've managed to get looking vaguely reasonable :

DaveD : There are pictures of your "dancing" on the camera
