It's the most dreaded question a visitor can ask me: What else is there to do in Margate? I can point them to the Walpole Bay Hotel (which doubles as a museum), the Margate Museum and the Droit House (or the Turner Contemporary Visitor Interpretation Centre to give it its full title) - the former two are fine, the latter, well it hardly constitutes an afternoon out.
For one glorious summer we had the Margate Museum, Tudor House, Caves and Grotto forming a great little tourist attraction trail. Despite the Tudor House attracting lots of visitors, it hasn't re-opened (hmm, which makes it sound like the council has actually made a proactive decision not to re-open it, when actually I think they have either forgotten they own it, or are hoping everyone else has forgotten they own it). Likewise the Caves - if any decision has been made it seems to be to do nothing.
When the last owners put the Grotto up for sale, they offered it to TDC. Horrors. Thank god the council declined - it would doubtless be closed by now.
