The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Scheduled maintenance apparently
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/thanet/news ... se-128713/The latest work will include getting in specialist splicers to replace a section of the rope on one of the ride's lift hills.
The professional craftsmen will complete the work in front of visitors.
Seems an odd time to schedule it to me, but you can watch the craftsmen at work and get £5 back off your wristband to spend in the food court!

I was a regular at Dreamland in my teens and early twenties (1958 to 1971) and I don't remember the Scenic ever being out of action in the opening season. All maintenance was presumably carried out during the winter season, or is it a case of the "wrong type of wire cable" being used in the rebuild. Hopefully the work will be completed in the 5 days allocated.

Interim CEO at Dreamland Steven Mitchell said: "We have had a fantastic response to Dreamland since we re-opened the park on Friday, May 26, and visitors have, as ever, been enchanted by the Scenic Railway.
"When the ride was restored, we returned to its heritage rope system - which is not like the systems used by rollercoasters built today.
"Returned"? It was never any different...You couldn't make this up! It's from the script for a new Only Fools and Horses!
