Cheers for the reply.

As a kid we always used to go to the Easter parade, this was in the 80's so long after the fair but my Dad & Uncle would always tell stories of the place.

Its been over a year........

Embarrassingly, it is still work in progress. The usual excuses.

Thank you for your patience!

Believe it or not, it is still in the works. I am spending a day looking through a load of photos of Battersea Fun Fair in Surrey in a couple of weeks time. It edges a little closer each year, but I really want to try and get it finished this year.

Bob and I were just talking about it today. It is almost complete, but for a final proof read and some additional photos to be sourced. We may get it out before the end of the year, or very early next year.

Ooh great news Nick. Really looking forward to this book coming out.

Did you see the programme on BBC2 last night (24/9) on the Festival of Britain. Some great film of the exhibitions and the pleasure gardens. The clip of the crowd booing the Mayor of Wandsworth(?) when he offically closed the pleasure gardens was great.

Hi all

Ahh - my first playground (of the South) as the advertising used to go on the buses etc (remember "Now in full swing" emblazoned across the front upper decks when each new season began?)

I'm really happy this book's about to see the light of day. It's a real shame but, before my Mum sadly passed away in 2005, we used to have a pack of playing cards with London landmarks depicted on each one. One had a great shot of the former Big Dipper and the surrounding flat rides (I seem to recall it was almost an aerial shot). We also used to have a jigsaw puzzle with the Big Dipper right-hand side of the ride with the lifthill on show). Sadly I haven't seen the cards since my Dad moved from our former family home.

I guess there could have been copyright issues though possibly in reproducing the images. If I do ever find these again I'll certainly give you a shout Nick if it hasn't been sealed with the printers!

Martin :D
