Colwyn Bay Pier

The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

Colwyn Bay Pier

Postby michael » 07 Aug 2003, 08:57

I read on teletext last night that the current owner is planning to sell the pier by auction on the internet

Apparantly, he bought it a few years back and has re-opened parts of the pier. He wanted to open the old ballroom as a casino but had planning permission refused due to fire regulations. He has now had enough of the red tape and wants to sell

I remember Colwyn Bay being a really bustling place as a kid. There used to be rides on the prom - go karts, trampolines, coin cars (the type that you could never steer properly and used to bump into the sides) !! etc and a miniature railway. Also a really good arcade on the pier. Not much left now but the beach still seems to attract a good few people

colwyn bay pier

Postby dave » 26 Jul 2006, 18:35

last week whilst on holiday in north wales went to colwyn bay and had a walk down to the victoris pier, now the original post was from 2003 and i've no idea who has bought the pier but they are in the process of trying to build it back up to its former glory.
As you enter the pier there is an amusement arcade on the right hand
side opposite that there is a fishing tackle shop then further down after that there are some empty shop units that are being done up then there is a bar area were on some evenings they put entertainment on.
then you go outside and the rest of the pier is in some disarry there is a building which at the moment is holding a art exhibation from local artist
from north wales there are collection boxes for aid toward the repairing of the rest of the pier, the building itself is in some state and there are fences
up to stop you going past this to the end of the pier which must be dangerous to walk on, so hopefully in time the reshape of the pier might come in to fluation and not just another pier going to the dogs.
regards dave......

The pier was bought by Steve Hunt who used to run Antique Amusement magazine and the gaming machine auctions.
