Southport New Pleasureland Pictures from 21/05/09

Postby mrjimlowe » 25 May 2009, 20:00

Hello

Here is my photo album from Thursday 21 May, which includes pictures of the River Caves site (partly demolished after the fire) and the Wild Mouse Coaster which is under construction. This is the original Pleasureland Wildmouse which has now been bought by Norman Wallis:

By the way, does anybody know what is happening to the Abdullahs Delemma? The building looks to be intact and is not damaged by the fire. I understood that the Haunted Swing and the MIrror Maze were being kept aside for the Save Dreamland campaigne.
Regards

Hi Jim et al,

I visited Southport last Tuesday evening, after quick drop-ins at Camelot and Warrington's Gullivers World. I must have just missed seeing the final sad shots of what little remained of the classic River Caves. The site, in my opinion, looked much like a clearance in progress, with all the soil piled up, presumably shifted across from the former River Caves attraction.

I also took some photos (I'll try to upload them if I can navigate the technology!) I found the flying visit quite depressing really, and quite difficult to actually imagine exactly where the Cyclone used to proudly stand across from the green. (The trees appear to look so much larger there now). Oh well, they can't erase our memories yet, and I am very pleased to have made several park visits over the last 15 years or so.

I spoke to a few park folk making repairs to their front shop, which had been vandalised the night before. I arrived after 7pm so the park was closed, however, I was rather shocked to see how I could just gain access to the rear of the park from the seafront.

Yes, I agree with you about the site being open and unguarded. Since the last remains of the cyclone were removed, they have just landscaped the area. It needs to be fenced off when closed.

The Jungle River Log flume ride will be going to Newcastle Town Moore Fair soon but will return to Southport for the rest of the season:

I look foreward to seeing your pictures. The easiest way to get them online is to upload them to flickr.com or any photo site then just post the link on here.
