The Edge Developement Great Yarmouth

The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

Is this still going ahead? It's hard to find any news on the project.
Whatever your view is on gambling this will surely be a huge benifit to tourisum in the town and hopefully bring extra investment to exisiting place such as the pleasure beach.

I've always supported these proposals in principle, the area concerned is a derilict caravan site and it would draw people down to the pleasure beach extremety of the seafront.

I've looked at your link and the plans are quiite revealing, part of the complex would be built on part of the amusement park, therefore losing the area south of the rollercoaster. This may explain why this area has been continually run down since the sad loss of the water chute, several years ago.

Any reduction to the size of the amusement park would be detrimental. Indeed although a very pleasant, well maintained park with a fantastic wooden roller coaster, the management seem to lack the "sparkle" it has had in the past. With a very ocasional new ride and dramatically reduced opening hours, it is almost impossible to find it open after 5pm outside the summer holidays. A real shame when an amusement park has that "special" atmosphere after dark. This also has a knock on effect on the other businesses past the Wellington pier, including the excellent Model Village, making this area dead after the Pleasure Beach closes.

The joke is that the amusement park land is not needed for this development, their is at least a further mile of derelict caravan site beyond that they propose to use.

Perhaps this post should be renamed "GREAT YARMOUTH PLEASURE BEACH PLAN TO DOWNSIZE"?

For the latest on this scheme:-
