Southend Kursaal Question

The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

Southend Kursaal Question

Postby Zoidstar » 30 Dec 2010, 22:59

At the end of WW1 a tank was taken to the Southend Kursaal and a replica of the trenches of ypres were constructed, the tank was fitted with a deck area and a hand rail for people to hold on to as the tank would trundle arround a course.

I have only ever seen ONE photo of it and have been trying to find it ever since (sadly can't remember where I saw the photo) anyone on here know anything about it?

Hi Zoidstar,

While doing my searches on Clacton Pier I recall coming across some early footage on British Pathe of that particular attraction, not sure if they would allow you to drive up the High Street in a tank today.
