The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

Hello

Here are some pics from Good Friday 2011.
I went to Southport New Pleasureland yesterday (22 April) and the park was busy. See them all here: (more to be added)

Hi Jim et al

Good pictures there, although it still makes me mad how we lost the former park in the circumstances, along with another rare UK wooden coaster. I don't think people realise what they've lost really until it's too late generally sadly in today's culture. At least some of us gave it our best shot to save the Cyclone and it always make me feel proud to recall what Peter and his friend did scaling the coaster in the early days of the campaign.

However, it's nice to see the former Casablanca building receiving some paint TLC. Hopefully the new owners/operators can be given the chance to offer a new permanent amusement offering sometime soon.

Is the new Ghost Train in the old pizza restaurant building by the way? - and is the fun house building still there?

Martin :(

PS I posted a mystery old wooden coaster Butlin's feature on the Magic Eye thread just now and would welcome some responses.

Hi,
The Ghost Train is actually in the old Fun House building it'self.

The problem with the Pleasureland is the local council who seem to want shiny new buildings and not much else.

Hi Alan.

To be fair, the site is a lot tidier than last year, generally. The ground is a lot flatter and the smaller rides are powered from the mains and there are no trailing power cables.

Friday was very busy and that bin is opposite an ice cream hut which was also busy, plus it was a windy day.

Hi Jim,
Its just a shame the park was ripped up in the first place.

Hi Alan

sefton council are to blame. In 2006 after the park closed, they let the original owners back on site for another 6 months to trash the place.
I heard that it cost in the region of £600,000 to clean up the site as the wood cyclone was buried in the ground along with other debris, plus there were live exposed electric cables on the site as well.
