The Blackpool Slump

The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

How's this for an aged moment...

I don't even remember posting the initial thread!! :-)
Please pass through the turnstiles if you are riding again.

Yes, the behaviour is awful. What you see there during broad daylight is what you get at night in most normal towns. Pubs and clubs aren't family attractions. Trouble is, nor are casinos. :(

Hi

There are still pubs that you can go to if you have a Family the Laughing Donkey on the South Pier being a good example, I also have to agree that BPB not haveing a new ride is not good for the park and I would hope that a new ride appears there soon I have not yet been to Blackpool this year but am hopeing to go there next BH weekend but if not I have a week off just after that so i will be going then for a day midweek, I am in complete agreement that Casinos are not the answer and as there is now only going to be one super casino allowed in the UK and there its not Blackpool may not get it I think that thay must now also look at more family based entertainment venues, perhaps an large indoor amusment park much like Olyimpa used to be but with more modern rides in there, I beleve blackpool will be there as a resort as long as there are people that want a good day or few days at the seaside.

Oh, I am 100% in favour of family bars. My memories of holiday camps wouldn't be the same if evenings didn't culminate around the ballroom, reception, arcades etc! What I'm saying is that Blackpool has a "pub crawl" culture amongst the youth, and this means you get very bad behaviour even during the daytime.

Yes. Whilst I'm not frustrated like I used to be, I would like to see Blackpool kept fresh. Trouble is, what would you remove? And what would you actually build? I can't answer either of those questions. I like woodies, but I can't see them building a 6th. For steelies, I favour B&Ms, but I can't see them building one.

What I'd like more than a new ride at Blackpool is a big new coaster at Southport (in the zoo extension). A huge wooden twister would be just the ticket, or how about a junior hypercoaster?

Hi Graeme

I have to agree that you do get very bad behaviour even in the afternoons, but we have visited the Laughing Donkey at various times during the day and have never seen any problems as thay do make a lot of effort to make sure that only couples and families are in the pub, and thay also do quizzes and other compitions through out the day that tend to discourage the type of customer who would cause problems. Blackpool could undoubtedly do with more pubs like Laughing Donkey as 100% family pubs, and commit to makeing sure that only familys and couples go in there, we dont have kids but dont like going into the pubs in the center because of the problems in them. On the attractions front I dont think casinos are the answer I think more family entertament is needed perhaps an indoor amusement complex with rides, video games, cinema, and perhaps some water based activitys, but no grabbers or fruit machines. Obviously you could incorperate both a bar and eating facilitys in there as well.
