When it's rebuilt and operational - are you going to ride naked?

Discussed this with Dave Collard last night...I would certainly be more than happy to take part in any such event to help raise funds, or even to raise awareness (or indeed raise a laugh!)

I'm sure it would generate attention if a significant proportion of the population of Thanet rode the coaster naked.... they could photograph it and put it in the turner! Local art... now that's the sort of thing that makes sense, art that shows the history and popularity of the town, such as a painting of the scenic or dreamland full of people.

hmm i'm off to paypal's website to see if i can come up with a donate link that we could post to facebook for people who might not realise how easy it is to donate via e-mail or sending a Cheque. I don't know if you can specify the address it sends it to but i think so.

There's one other thing, I saw on the news an ebay auction where they put up a listing to raise money for a charity or trust. I think that ends up with one big payment though, seeing who's willing to donate the most, or maybe they had multiple auctions, i think it was for the radio telescope which has been on the news recently. I think there were auctions where people could bid something to fund keeping the thing running, probably multiple auctions.

Or else you sell stuff and send all proceeds to the paypal address?

To use Website Payments Standard, you need a Premier or Business account according to Paypal, i don't know if Sarah's is one but maybe there's a way to send money via a link anyway. I know paypal does not require you to be a member to make payments which is an advantage but i think to send money without a link you have to be a member.

Nochex is a similar service.

An interesting thought would be to sell tickets for the ride before it opens - I'm thinking this because of a recent episode of the apprentice, not out of greed but because it gives you the market and the money to start with. I don't know if its feasible though, in essence you'd sell tickets to raise money to fix the ride - sort of pre-release tickets. Alternatively make an ebay auction whereby all proceeds go to the trust but the winner gets to ride the scenic first in the event that enough money is generated. That way they're agreeing to donate anyway.

The big problem with the above and also with the mentions of funding CCTV/security on the site is that the campaign doesn't own the ride/site or have any control over them unfortunately.

Yes there does seem to be some confusion about what this campaign is about and what funding is being raised for.

It's to fight - sorry, work with and help and guide - the b*****s who own the site and the Scenic and the cinema... you never know when an emergency pot of cash is needed. Like the waterchute at Rhyl rescue.

Ah yes I was forgetting that, but in any case we need some kind of master scheme to make money!
I would really hate to return after i've completed by degree and find that where Dreamland was is just concrete along with the rest of the seafront. I would have thought that perhaps arcades in the area would be willing to put on fundraising events if it helps their business in some way.

You mention the Cinema, but i always thought that was owned by Reeltime-Cinemas, is that not true? Or are they part of something bigger? I thought they'd closed the cinema because of competition from Westwood and to probably focus on their other places like the Carlton.

What will happen in the short term I cannot say, in the long term eventually it would be wonderful if a Trust could run it all. Or someone who will care for it and bring the site back into use. So many twists and turns of the plot though it's hard to keep up.

I THINK the cinema has the sticky dabs of the MTCRC on it - recent statements about putting in a glass wall (it's listed) etc by Waterbridge make you suspect this is the case. It also makes you suspect that they have no plans at all, now the sale to Paigle has fallen through, and the newly adopted Planning Brief for the site insists on a chunk of the park being an amusement park and not the vast 'mixed use development' envisaged. The Scenic got in the way of that really...

In the interim - the campaign needs need cash to pay for things already done and bought - and in case we need to do things like take out injunctions, hire a hit man... oooooh no the last was a joke.

So at the moment it really is all a spot ad hoc.

So much depends on the next few weeks and the council's Repairs Order...

OK well at least i think the point should be raised that the council has a duty to protect this historic landmark in my eyes....... they should be able to use whatever powers they have to enforce that the scenic is protected by the owners.

Hopefully recent events have highlighted the need for people to join in and help.

It's only now that the council can act - as it's clearly at risk. The owners can of course contest the order, and there's a long way to go yet.

There are hundreds if not thousands of listed Buildings at Risk throughout the country. Councils have not the funds to issue orders on them all.
