FIGHTING FUND FOR DREAMLAND

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

This is truly fabulous, the campaign had some security under it.

Thanks to all those that have donated, and to anyone still considering making a donation.

Vince.

The figure raised is truly wonderful and a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed.
This gives us a very helpful 'pot' to carry on with the work of the Campaign / Trust. Whilst we all do the work because we believe passionately in what we are doing there is still a need to have some cash for things.
I am sure you all realise that the workload has increased extensively since the fire and will continue that way for the foreseeable future. We try to keep you updated with events but be assured we are still there working in the background even when there doesn't seem to be a news item coming up.
Thank you all once again

As I said in my first post on this thread:

Let's remember that so many setbacks have been overcome, and we need to battle on I agree.

But this campaign is run on love and goodwill, and a vast amount of unpaid hard work by the 'team', and some cash in the bank is always needed!

I have some idea of the work which goes on behind the scenes. I think that there are times when those involved at the sharp end shouldn't be out of pocket, and there are various other expenses which have to be incurred in saving Dreamland.

So thank you to those who do the really hard bit behind the scenes, and please folks - let's keep this coming! It's magnificent!

Maybe over the thousand is possible soon?

From the News page:

Monday, 21 April 2008

Nick Laister and Susan Marsh of the Save Dreamland Campaign attended a meeting with senior representatives of Thanet District Council and the Margate Renewal Partnership to discuss the future of the Scenic Railway and to further progress plans for the Dreamland Heritage Amusement Park. More news on these proposals will be posted on this page over the coming weeks, so check back regularly.

I know that Nick and Susan (along with other leaders of this campaign) don't count the cost, but even simple things like travel to such important meetings, attending conferences such as the English Heritage one on seasides, etc all cost cash. It's my view that those who give so freely of time and expertise should have their basic costs covered by the campaign, when possible.

I do know these are people of the highest integrity and nothing will be wasted.

The Rhyl waterchute rescue... that depleted the small funds too.

Please keep it coming folks. Even a pound or two - it all adds up!

I think we shouldn't lose sight of the fact, despite the meetings in royal residences (!) and the hobnobbing of our illustrious campaign leaders with the Great and the Good, all this travelling and meetings and a great deal else besides has to be paid for. The volunteers who keep the campaign afloat and bring our dreams of Dreamland to fruition shouldn't be out of pocket, they work so hard on our behalf.

A very public and heartfelt thank you I feel is called for, and maybe time for another appeal for donations to the Fighting Fund? I know that all and any money is welcome, no matter how small the amount (although big fat donations more than welcome I think too). Every little helps.

It's not over yet folks, although hopefully we are hands in air time not hitting the bottom any longer!

Details of how to donate are on the link on the main news page.
