30k for the Waltzer, £109k for the Viper...it's tempting!

No, but it's not unaffordable either, I believe the Dreamland Wild Mouse was on sale at about £600,000 which makes the Viper look good value. A Waltzer is fairly essential for the new Dreamland, although the paint scheme on this one is fairly horrible.

I would think about taking a concession at Dreamland if that is what comes to pass.

We have the same ride here called the "Tilt-a-Whirl."

Someone even makes all the replacement light up panels for the groovy classic artwork probably circa 1940s.

Here's a really old one circa 1930s nestled in a rollercoaster turnaround.

the waltzer has a good history behind it,but you would be looking at 50-100k to bring it back up to spec. look at it as a template

I think that Butlins had at least three Tilt a Whirls. I saw some photos a while back of one in Butlins Mosney that had just been left to rust away.It also had a four cage Tempest sitting at its side which you do longer see.

This is what a British Waltzer car should look like...

Surely not. I doubt that any Waltzer with a current ADIPS certificate could possibly need more than £5000 spending on it to pass next year's test and even the poorest cosmetics could be remedied for not much more.

Admittedly from 2006, but I found this on sale at £25,000.

50 ft dia British Waltzer fairground ride. Built by Maxwell. Complete with ten cars, running lights on the rafters, top tilt, music system. Featuring some excellent air-brush artwork. Trailer mounted centre. Tested until middle of April 2007. 110v dc motor and starter, includes transformer/rectifier. Steel trams. Can be seen dismantled in storage only by prior arrangement. Has been open this year until 8th October and is in fine running condition. Would suit Amusement/Theme park. Operator training available.

Just a quick footnote, Dave is probably the person to know this, but what does "steel trams" refer to? Is it the circular running track beneath the cars, or the cars themselves?

the trams are the track that the wheels under the platforms run on

As Woody has said, Trams are the tracks that the platform wheels run on and make up a circular track around the ride. The cars run on platform rings which are part of every other moving platform.

Out of curiosity- I've always loved Waltzers- what would need to be replaced on this ride? I had assumed the motor would be the most expensive part to replace and I imagined it would probably have a 25 kw motor but they are only around £3500.

I suppose the main bearing and the car bearings would need to be replaced too, and probably some wood, but what else would you need to do to a ride such as this to get it an ADIPS certificate?
